Controls and what they do

The pedal keeps things simple with four knobs2:

ControlWhat it does
TimeSets the delay time, from 35 ms up to 750 ms, covering slapback through long, dark analog repeats1
FeedbackSets how many repeats you hear2
MixBlends the delayed signal with your dry sound2
DriveAdds grit and gusto to the repeats2

The Drive knob is the pedal's distinguishing control. Mike B wrote that "The Drive is a cool control unique to the MF Delay, and fairly unusual for the vast majority of delay pedals"1. In his first review he found it worked well within the context of the rest of the controls without overpowering the delay signal, and called "a delay pedal with a Drive section just brilliant"2. He also found the pedal worked great with both neck pickups, which gave smoother, warmer tones, and bridge pickups, which gave more pronounced bite and punch, coaxing a vast number of tones from a pedal with few controls2.

Where it came from

The Minifooger line was the newest addition to Moog's pedal line as of late 2014, and the pedals are basically compact versions of the big Moogerfoogers2. Pedal of the Day reviewed the MF Analog Delay in November 2014 and returned to it in December 2015 to open its "Moog Week" series, making it the second time the site reviewed the pedal12.

The Minifooger's analog design is the same approach Moog took with its larger MF-104M Analog Delay, and reviewers heard the family resemblance. Pedal of the Day's reviewer, Mike B, described the Minifooger as "the all-analog MF Delay" and found that "the repeats are warm, rich and full, just like we like 'em"2. He also noted how much range the pedal covers for its size, saying "It works great with both neck (smoother, warmer tones) and bridge (more pronounced bite and punch, with a beefed-up high"2.

The Bucket Brigade chip shortage that ended Moog's delay production in 2015 applies to the whole analog delay family, the Minifooger MF Delay included. Later Moog-style analog delays have come from other makers, such as Behringer's BM-14M, a recreation of the Moogerfooger MF-104M announced in September 2025.

For players weighing the Minifooger against its bigger sibling, the reviewer's verdict on the smaller pedal was that it holds its own. Pedal of the Day's Mike B found it "works great with both neck (smoother, warmer tones) and bridge (more pronounced bite and punch, with a beefed-up high", coaxing a wide range of tones from a pedal with few controls2. On the character of the repeats themselves, he concluded that because the circuit is analog, "the repeats are warm, rich and full, just like we like 'em"2.

Questions

Is the Moog Minifooger MF Delay analog or digital?

It is all-analog. Pedal of the Day's reviewer, Mike B, called it "the all-analog MF Delay" and noted that because the circuit is analog, the repeats come out warm, rich and full. The delay engine is based on Bucket Brigade chips, the same kind of chip used in Moog's larger Moogerfooger delay pedals, rather than on digital conversion.

How long is the delay time on the Minifooger MF Delay?

The Time control runs from 35 ms up to 750 ms, according to Pedal of the Day's review. That span covers everything from tight slapback to longer, darker analog repeats, so a player can move from a short doubling effect to a spacious echo with one knob.

What does the Drive knob do on the Minifooger MF Delay?

Drive adds grit to the repeats. Pedal of the Day found it gave the echoes extra gusto while sitting well with the pedal's other controls without overpowering the delay signal. The reviewer called Drive a control unique to the MF Delay and fairly unusual among delay pedals generally.

Why did Moog stop making its analog delay pedals for a while?

In 2015 Moog announced it had used up its supply of the Bucket Brigade chips its delay pedals depend on and would not make any more, which drove the price of the Moogerfooger MF-104M sharply upward. Production stayed dormant until 2019, when a newly found cache of vintage chips let Moog build a small batch of MF-104M pedals sold only from its Asheville, North Carolina store.
