The Hendrix Series Fuzz Face is a fuzz pedal designed by the MXR team as part of Dunlop's Jimi Hendrix tribute line, alongside the Hendrix Series Octavio and Univibe. It takes the Fuzz Face format, a fuzz effect built around Volume and Fuzz controls, and adds modern upgrades such as true bypass switching, bright LEDs and 9-volt power jacks, aimed at players who want the Hendrix-associated fuzz sound on a crowded board1.
What it does
As a fuzz pedal, it delivers the saturated, sustaining distortion the Fuzz Face circuit is known for, in the Hendrix tribute context. The Hendrix Series pedals were announced with a set of modern upgrades over the vintage format21:
- True bypass switching
- Bright LEDs
- 9-volt power jacks
Those additions matter in practice: a 9-volt power jack means the pedal can run from a standard pedalboard supply rather than relying on a battery, and true bypass keeps the signal path clean when the fuzz is off1.
Enclosure and related models
The pedal comes in a Phase 90-sized housing, notably smaller than the large circular chassis of the original Fuzz Face design, which makes it easier to fit alongside other pedals1.
Dunlop has continued the Hendrix fuzz line since. The Authentic Hendrix '68 Shrine Series, announced in February 2023, included a Fuzz Face mini pedal with knobs for Volume and Fuzz, plus two separate buttons for delivering a duo of Hendrix-flavored tones, with Shrine Auditorium poster artwork2. The same series included the Band of Gypsys Fuzz, inspired by a mysterious Fuzz Face that Hendrix used at numerous shows between '69 and '702.
