The Goblin-SPST is a MIDI upgrade board from Oscillator Devices. It is one variant of the company's Goblin MIDI upgrade, built for players who want MIDI control over digital pedals that were never designed for it. The Goblin-SPST version covers effects devices with up to five SPST switches, external switch connections, expression inputs and potentiometers1. What it does
The Goblin sits inside a pedal and gives it MIDI control of its switching. Oscillator Devices describes the Goblin family as three Imps in one package, with the three units called Ports, and each port acting as an independent device with its own configurable function, called a Role3. The connections on the board are terminals called RLY, SW and LED, and their meaning depends on the role assigned to that port3.

Installation keeps the pedal's original hardware in place. The Goblin is wired between the original switches and the effects device, so the original switches are retained during installation4. One practical detail for players of pedals with a TRS switch jack: on port 3, the tip of the TRS socket connects to DAT on the Goblin5.
A useful behavior for live use: the Goblin remembers the switching status after turning off, which Oscillator Devices says fixes the problem of a pedal losing its state between power cycles4.
