The Red Witch Deluxe Moon Phaser is an all-analog phaser and tremolo pedal in one box, plus a third mode the maker calls tremophasing, where the phase shift modulates at the same time as the tremolo's volume rise and fall. Red Witch describes it as a completely new design that does not reproduce the sound of any other phaser, with a warm, transparent tone the company refers to as "spatial sparkle"1.
The pedal is no longer in regular production. The original was discontinued in 2018, and a limited reissue of 19 units in May 2025 also sold out2. It sits in Red Witch's Moon Phaser line, which began with the Moon Phaser, the pedal the New Zealand company made its debut with3.
What it does and how it works
The Deluxe Moon Phaser offers three effects: phasing, tremolo, and tremophasing. The tremophase function is the unusual one. Red Witch describes it as a mode where "the modulation of the phase shift occurs at the same time as the volume increase and decrease of the tremolo"1, so the two effects move together rather than running independently. The phase circuit itself is FET-based, which the maker describes as "super quiet"1.
The Moon Phaser line's circuitry has a documented lineage. MusicRadar's Jonathan Horsley notes that the Moon Phaser "was based around a FET-driven circuit, offering 6-stage phase-shifting"3. Red Witch says the Deluxe version does not copy any existing phaser's sound, calling it "a completely new design"1.
Power and stereo outputs
Power comes from either a 9 volt battery or a 9 volt DC wall adapter, with a current draw of 22mA1. That draw is modest by digital standards but higher than many simple analog pedals, so a battery will not last indefinitely under regular use.
The pedal also has a stereo output that splits the wet and dry signals, letting a player send the effected signal to one amp and the dry signal to another1. Both the original and the 2025 reissue share the same power spec, stereo output, true bypass switching, weight, and dimensions2.
History and the limited reissue
The Deluxe Moon Phaser traces back to the Moon Phaser, the first pedal Red Witch's Ben Fulton designed, which he describes as "nearly 25 years ago"4. The company calls the Moon Phaser one of its flagship pedals, "used and loved by players over the last twenty years"5, and MusicRadar describes the original as "the Andy Summers-approved Moon Phaser" with which the brand made its debut3.
The Deluxe Moon Phaser itself was discontinued in 2018. Red Witch's explanation is direct2:
"Discontinued in 2018 due to obsolescence of the matched FET's used in the design."2
The matched FETs at the heart of the circuit simply became unavailable. In 2025 the company found enough remaining stock to build a small reissue2:
"Enough to make 19 Deluxe Moon Phasers."2
That run went on sale on Thursday 22 May 2025 at 249 USD and sold out2. The reissue kept the original's all-analog FET-based phase system, true bypass switching, stereo wet/dry output, tremophase function, and 22mA current draw2.
Red Witch has since moved the Moon Phaser concept forward in other products. Ben Fulton presents the Invidium Phaser, released in the Apothecary series in April 2025, as the successor to the Moon Phaser, calling the original "long out of general production" and "this iconic pedal"6.
Players and reviewers
Red Witch states that Andy Summers used the Deluxe Moon Phaser "to great effect on The Police Reunion tour and live DVD in 2007/2008"1. Among press, gearnews writer Jef named it a constant on his own board:
"I'm a big fan of Red Witch pedals and use my Deluxe Moon Phaser all the time on my main board."7
Guitar.com's Gary Walker reviewed a Red Witch round-up in 2016 and found one fault on the reviewed unit: "On our unit, the switch gave an audible pop when operating" the cosmology switch8. That observation applies to the individual unit reviewed, not necessarily every Deluxe Moon Phaser.

Questions
Why was the Red Witch Deluxe Moon Phaser discontinued?
Red Witch discontinued it in 2018 because the matched FETs used in the design became obsolete and could no longer be sourced2.
Does the Deluxe Moon Phaser take a battery?
Yes, it runs on a 9 volt battery or a 9 volt DC wall adapter, drawing 22mA1.
Is the Deluxe Moon Phaser true bypass?
Yes, both the original and the 2025 reissue use true bypass switching12.
How many Deluxe Moon Phaser reissues were made?
The 2025 reissue was a limited run of 19 pedals, sold at 249 USD from 22 May 2025, and it sold out2.
Did Andy Summers use the Red Witch Moon Phaser?
Yes, Red Witch states he used the Deluxe Moon Phaser on The Police Reunion tour and live DVD in 2007/20081.
