The RJM Music Full English is a programmable overdrive pedal designed to squeeze six overdrives into one pedal. Its six modes, Push, Blues, Royal, Imperial, Shred and Stack, are RJM Music's take on some very well-known 1990s overdrive pedals from the Marshall lineup, and each drive is based on a very British, Marshall-style drive tone. Each overdrive is an analog circuit designed to capture that Marshall tone as an amp-in-a-box, with digital control handling the presets and MIDI.1

The six modes

The Full English follows the amp-in-a-box approach: rather than modeling an amplifier, each mode is an analog circuit built to evoke a Marshall-style drive. The modes run from a clean boost to high-gain territory12:

  • Push: a clean boost designed to push the front end of an amp, with a high maximum output level1
  • Blues, Royal, Imperial: further Marshall-style drive tones in the same family12
  • Shred and Stack: Premier Guitar's reviewer found these well-suited to heavy rock leads and classic metal, respectively2

Controls and presets

The pedal carries gain, tone, volume, bass, mid and treble knobs that adjust the overdrive WYSIWYG-style, with bass, mid and treble configured as post-gain EQ, so what you hear is what you get when you save a sound.2

Presets save the overdrive mode, knob settings and all, to one of eight preset slots, arranged in red and green banks of four. Beyond the onboard slots, the pedal has 8 presets available with a further 100 presets accessible via MIDI.12

MIDI and connectivity

The Full English has full-sized MIDI in and out ports along with a USB-C port. Its MIDI implementation means it will appear in any MIDI-enabled app when connected to a computer, which makes it usable in a MIDI-switched rig or editable from software on a desk. Players building around MIDI control may also want to see the MIDI Pedals page, and RJM's earlier programmable overdrive, the RJM Music Overture, shares the same programmable, MIDI-equipped approach.12

What reviewers said

Premier Guitar's review confirmed that the overdrives and signal chain are fully analog, and that "it sounds great as a result." The reviewer singled out the Shred and Stack modes as well-suited to heavy rock leads and classic metal, respectively.2

gearnews.com, covering the pedal's release in December 2023, framed it as six Marshalls in one pedal, noting that each drive is based on a very British, Marshall-style drive tone.1
