The Rocktron Tru-Loop is a compact pedal from Rocktron that does two jobs at once: it works as a switcher, and it works as a buffer. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes it as "our incredible new product that lets you add True Bypass to any non-true bypass effect," which is the core of what it is for1.
What it does
Many older or simpler effects pedals have a buffered or hardwired output rather than true bypass, meaning their circuit stays in the signal path even when the effect is switched off. The Tru-Loop is built to sit in front of such a pedal and put a true bypass loop around it, so the effect can be taken completely out of the chain when it is not in use. Rocktron markets it as a way to "add True Bypass to any non-true bypass effect"1.
Because it is also a buffer, it can be used on its own as a signal conditioner. For more on how buffers work and how the Tru-Loop compares with dedicated units such as the TC Electronic Bonafide Buffer, the JHS Pedals Little Black Buffer or the Empress Effects Buffer, see the Buffer Pedals page1.
Specifications
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Product type | Switcher, buffer1 |
| Circuit type | Analog1 |
| Power | 9V DC, center negative1 |
| Current draw | 25mA1 |
The Tru-Loop draws 25mA, so it needs its own 9V DC center negative supply output rather than a low-current daisy-chain connection.
