The Roger Mayer Page 1 is a fuzz pedal and a reissue of one of the earliest designs from Roger Mayer, the effects designer who says he built his first fuzz in 1964. That original, he says, "was used by Jimmy Page and Big Jim Sullivan and featured on many early hit records." After 40 years, Mayer announced the pedal would be available again, with the same distortion section as the 1964 version and carefully selected germanium transistors.1
What it does
The Page 1 is a germanium-transistor fuzz in the line of Mayer's early designs, sitting alongside later circuits like the Roger Mayer Axis Fuzz and the Roger Mayer Classic Fuzz. Its core is the distortion section of the 1964 original, and Mayer describes the reissue as "this early ground breaking fuzz" brought back after four decades.1
Controls and features
The pedal keeps a simple control layout, with the Drive control setting how much distortion the circuit produces.1
| Control | What it does |

| Drive | Sets the amount of distortion1 |
Beyond the distortion section, the reissue adds features from Mayer's Vision Series in a new enclosure style1:
- A carefully tuned passive fatness control after the distortion section, which Mayer says "adds fatness without messing up" the tone
- Hard Wire and Buffered Dual Outputs
- Vision Series features
- A new enclosure style1
The bypass is a mechanical bypass mode that bypasses the final buffer, matching the original 1964 design rather than the buffered arrangement of the reissue's outputs.1
Related pedals
Mayer's range includes several other fuzz and distortion designs, among them the Roger Mayer Stone Fuzz, the Roger Mayer Mongoose, the Roger Mayer Spitfire, the Roger Mayer Voodoo-Axe and the Roger Mayer Page 1 Classic.
