RPS Effects Warp Drive

The RPS Effects Warp Drive Analog Delay is an analog delay pedal from RPS Effects. It lists for $299¹. Pedal of the Day, reviewing it, described its sound as "the gorgeous, vintage-esque analog echoes from the Warp Drive" and said it "boasts sounds and tones reminiscent of the units from decades gone by"²³.

What it does

As an analog delay, the Warp Drive repeats your signal with the warm, softened character that analog bucket brigade circuits are known for. Pedal of the Day put it plainly: "There's just no substitute for a good analog delay, plain and simple."²

The pedal's control section centers on four knobs:

• Wet/Dry blend: blends your dry signal and the delay effect together to taste²
• Warp: the pedal's signature control, which Pedal of the Day said "gives off a great range to experiment with, including whammy bar, pitch shift and full-blown outer space" setting possibilities²
• Feedback: sets how many repeats the delay produces²
• Time: sets the delay length²

The Warp parameter is what separates the Warp Drive from a straightforward vintage-style delay: it pushes the repeats into pitch-shifting and dive-bomb territory, so one pedal can cover both traditional echoes and more experimental sounds².

Expression pedal control

The Warp Drive has a couple of input jacks that can be used to control the pedal via expression pedals². That means parameters such as the Warp control can be swept in real time with your foot, which is where the whammy bar and pitch shift behaviors become playable rather than just set-and-forget.

What reviewers said

Pedal of the Day's verdict was positive: "The Warp Drive emulated classic tones, while adding in some modern features to take advantage of everything it's got up" its sleeve, and the reviewer added they were impressed with RPS Effects overall². A later Pedal of the Day review of another RPS Effects pedal, the Arcade Machine PLL Analog Synth Harmonizer, looked back on "the gorgeous, vintage-esque analog echoes from the Warp Drive"³, suggesting the pedal held a favorable place in the reviewer's view of the maker's range two years on.
