The Strymon Midnight Edition BigSky is the company's BigSky reverb pedal, which Strymon describes as a multidimensional reverberator, in a limited-run alternative finish: black knobs and a blacked-out enclosure1. It was announced in November 2021 alongside Midnight Edition versions of the El Capistan and Deco, and Guitar World reported it at $479, the same price as the standard units2.
What it is
The Midnight Edition BigSky is not a new circuit. It is the standard BigSky, a stereo reverb pedal Strymon markets as a multidimensional reverberator, offered in a special finish1. Guitar World described the Midnight Editions as limited pedals that "offer an alternative black finish on some of its bigger" units2.
For a player, the choice between this and the regular BigSky comes down to looks and availability: the electronics and controls are those of the standard pedal, while the enclosure and knobs are finished in black1.
The Midnight Edition run
Guitar.com reported that Strymon was offering three of its pedals, the BigSky, El Capistan and Deco, in a special Midnight Edition with black knobs and blacked-out enclosures, and noted it was the first time the brand had done so. The run was limited in numbers1.
The Midnight Edition BigSky was a limited run announced in November 2021. As a limited edition, it appears on the used market rather than as a current production item.
Where it sits in Strymon's reverb range
The Midnight Edition is not a separate model but a finish option on the BigSky, Strymon's flagship reverb pedal, and it carries the same list price as the standard units: $479 USD2. Players considering it are therefore looking at the standard BigSky circuit in a collector's finish, alongside other reverb pedals in Strymon's range such as the Cloudburst, the NightSky, the Flint and the blueSky.
