The T-Rex Replicator D'Luxe is a tape echo pedal: a delay unit that records your signal to real tape and plays it back through two playback heads, with one record head doing the writing. T-Rex Effects builds it in Denmark, and the company describes it as "a sum up from all the knowledge, we have built up over the years, making Tape delays"1. It sits in the delay pedal family, but unlike a digital delay it uses a moving tape mechanism, which is where its character comes from.
The Replicator D'Luxe draws 300mA at 12VDC1 and needs the included 12V supply. It will not run from a battery or a standard daisy chain output, so give it its own outlet on your power supply.
How the tape mechanism works
Instead of a chip, the D'Luxe uses a motor-driven tape loop. GuitarPlayer's delay pedal guide describes it as "equipped with a slot to add tape cartridges that look similar to cassettes," recording your signal directly to the tape and playing it back through the heads3. You change the cartridge the way you would change a cassette, and the wear on the tape becomes part of the sound over time.
The two playback heads give you three playback settings: short head, long head, and a mix of the two3. Tap tempo is set for the long head, and the short head runs at half that time1. The drive mechanism has been updated with a noiseless belt drive, which keeps the motor from adding mechanical noise to the signal1.
Guitar World's guide to tape echo pedals puts it plainly: "with the T-Rex Replicator D'Luxe Tape Echo, we get the real deal"4.
Controls
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Delay time | Sets the delay length |
| Feedback | Sets how many repeats build up |
| Delay level | Sets the volume of the repeats |
| Saturation | Drives the tape harder for a warmer, compressed repeat |
| Kill dry | Cuts the dry signal, useful in a studio or wet/dry rig |
| Short / Long | Selects the short head, the long head, or a mix of the two |
| On/off | Engages or bypasses the effect |
| Tap tempo | Sets the tempo, for the long head, with the short head at half time |
The control list comes from T-Rex's product page and matches GuitarPlayer's rundown of the pedal13.

Where it sits in T-Rex's delay range
T-Rex has built a whole family of delays around tape and magnetic media. The original T-Rex Replicator and T-Rex Replicator Junior are the D'Luxe's siblings, and the T-Rex Replicator Tape Delay carries the same idea under a slightly different name. Beyond tape, the company makes the T-Rex Replica stereo delay, the compact T-Rex Replay Box, and the T-Rex Binson Echorec, a reproduction of the Binson Echorec magnetic drum echo that gearnews.com called one of the "great tools for the studio"5.
Price and availability
T-Rex lists the Replicator D'Luxe at €459.00 EUR on its webshop6. As of October 2026 the webshop shows the pedal as sold out2.
