The T-Rex Replay Box is a true stereo delay pedal from T-Rex Effects, the Danish company behind the Replica and the Replicator tape echo line. It is a clean, straight-ahead delay: T-Rex says it "sounds more modern and it doesn´t distort or warble", and that it merely sends out what you put in, only a little later1. The pedal came about after customers asked T-Rex for a pure delay that does not modify the tonal quality of the original guitar signal2.

The design borrows from the company's T-Rex Replica, capturing many of that pedal's popular features, most importantly its high quality tap function, in a smaller box2. It was first shown publicly at the 2014 NAMM Show in January, alongside other new T-Rex effects3.

What the Replay Box does: a clean stereo delay

The Replay Box is built around new hardware that RockBoard's PedalPedia says creates a very studio-like sounding delay, and that hardware let the company increase the delay time to a maximum of 3 seconds4. The DSP processes the left and right sides individually, so a stereo source stays genuinely stereo rather than being summed and re-split1.

Like all T-Rex delays, the dry signal is kept analog, so there is no latency or coloring from converters on your unprocessed tone4. The delayed repeats are generated digitally. RockBoard's PedalPedia describes the result as clearer and more true to the incoming guitar signal than its other designs: it does not distort or warble, it simply reproduces what you play, a little later4.

Pedal of the Day called it "a clean, straight-ahead, no-nonsense delay pedal" in an extremely small but powerful enclosure, with hardware specially designed to emulate a high-end studio delay5. Delicious Audio noted it is a horizontally set standard size stompbox, not the double-wide format common among delay pedals2.

The controls

The front panel is deliberately simple. T-Rex lists the controls as an on/off switch, tap, volume, mix, repeat, tempo and mode1.

ControlWhat it does
On/off switchEngages and bypasses the effect
TapTap tempo footswitch for hands-free delay time setting5
VolumeSets the level of the delayed signal
MixBalances dry and delayed signal
RepeatSets the number of repeats and feedback
TempoSets delay time manually
ModeSubdivision switch: quarter, triplet or dotted-eighth5

The mode switch adjusts the delay time to 1/1, 2/3 or 3/4 of your foot taps, depending on the switch setting1. In press terms, that is a choice of quarter, triplet and dotted-eighth delay patterns6. MusicRadar's reviewer Trevor Curwen found the layout well executed, with "a pair of decently spaced footswitches"7.

Power and connections

The Replay Box runs on a 9V DC supply, drawing 110 mA, and T-Rex recommends powering it from its FuelTank series1. The rear panel carries left and right input jacks, left and right output jacks, and the 9V DC power jack1.

At 110 mA the Replay Box draws more current than many compact analog pedals, so a shared or underpowered daisy chain supply may not keep it stable. MusicRadar's reviewer found battery life isn't great and recommended saving the battery for emergency use, letting a mains supply take the strain7.

What reviewers said

Reviews have been positive about the pedal's balance of size and features. MusicRadar's Trevor Curwen wrote:

"Clever design work means you get big features in a very small package."

He credited the compact design and the well-spaced footswitches, while cautioning on battery life7. Pedal of the Day found it "simple to use, packed with incredible features and the sound is solid as a rock", and placed it apart from other T-Rex delays like the Replicator Junior tape echo and the Reptile modulation delay, calling it a different beast from both5. In gearnews.com's 2025 survey of budget delay pedals, George Loveridge highlighted its quarter, triplet and dotted-eighth patterns and its Tap switch for an additional three seconds of delay, at a listed price of $66.00 as of June 20256.

Questions

Is the T-Rex Replay Box stereo?

Yes. The Replay Box has stereo input and output jacks, left and right, and the internal DSP processes each side individually. Reviewers at Pedal of the Day described it as having true stereo capabilities, making it usable in a full stereo rig or with two amps.

What is the maximum delay time on the T-Rex Replay Box?

Three seconds. T-Rex states that by using new hardware the delay time was increased to a maximum of 3 seconds, and gearnews.com's roundup likewise lists a Tap switch for an additional three seconds of delay.

Does the Replay Box have tap tempo subdivisions?

Yes. A Subdivision switch selects quarter, triplet or dotted-eighth patterns, and the delay time adjusts to 1/1, 2/3 or 3/4 of your foot taps depending on the switch setting. A dedicated Tap Tempo footswitch allows hands-free delay time setting.

Can the Replay Box run on a battery?

It can, but MusicRadar's reviewer found battery life isn't great and recommended saving the battery for emergency use, running the pedal from a mains power supply instead. It draws 110 mA at 9V DC, which is more than many compact pedals.

Is the Replay Box dry signal analog?

Yes. T-Rex keeps the dry signal analog, as it does on its other delays, so the unprocessed guitar signal passes through without latency or coloring from converters. The delayed signal is handled by digital DSP.
