The TomKat Super Heavy is a stereo digital pedal that chains three effects in one box: delay, then overdrive, then reverb. Designed by Tom Kogut of TomKat pedals, it launched in December 2024 and was reported by Delicious Audio as his first release in five years1. The builder describes the design as inspired "by the most powerful rocket ever launched by humans"1.
Where many multi-effect pedals treat each block as an equal, the Super Heavy puts the reverb first: Delicious Audio calls the reverb "the most important and therefore tweakable effect in this circuit"1. The pedal is made by TomKat pedals, whose Tom continues to turn out new designs1. Alongside the reverb, the circuit includes delay and overdrive elements2.
What it does
The signal runs through the three blocks in a fixed order: delay first, then drive, then reverb1. Because the whole chain is stereo, a player can feed two amps or a stereo interface and keep the width of the delays and reverbs intact. One thing to know before buying a power supply: there is no analog dry-through, so the dry signal passes through the conversion too, and the pedal's rear panel takes 9V DC at a reported 350mA, which rules out a battery and makes a daisy chain with other pedals risky2.
The Super Heavy draws a reported 350mA at 9V DC2, more than a typical analog stompbox. Plan on an isolated power supply rather than sharing a daisy chain.
The pedal stores 7 factory and 7 user presets, so a player can recall saved delay, drive and reverb settings rather than rebuilding a sound from scratch1.
The controls
The face of the pedal is organized around a central knob and a set of smaller controls that light up in four colors, each color standing for one part of the chain. Turning the central knob selects and edits one of the three effects, or the parameters that affect the entire output, with the color coding showing which effect is being tweaked at that moment. Pressing the central knob enters Presets mode1.
Guitar Pedal X breaks the four color-coded clusters out as follows2:
| Cluster | Color | Parameters |
|---|---|---|
| Universal | White | Input Gain, Chain Mix, Delay Mix, Drive Mix, Drive Amnt, Reverb Mix, Output Gain |
| Reverb | Magenta | Reverb parameters |
| Delay | Amber | Delay parameters |
| Drive | Red | Drive parameters |
The Universal cluster is where the overall balance lives: input and output gain at the ends, and individual mix levels for the delay, drive and reverb blocks in between3.
Two footswitches sit at the bottom of the pedal:
- Left footswitch: a momentary Freeze function that freezes the wet signal1. Guitar Pedal X describes it as an Infinite Freeze / Pads function, useful for holding a wash of reverb and delay under your playing2.
- Right footswitch: engages and bypasses the pedal2.
The Freeze function is the performance feature here: hold the left switch and the effects signal sustains while you play dry lines over the top, a common trick on ambient and pad-style reverb pedals1.
Where it came from
The Super Heavy comes from TomKat pedals, the small maker whose Tom, as Delicious Audio puts it, "is still churning out pedals"1. Delicious Audio's coverage highlights where the pedal's priorities sit, describing the reverb as "the most important and therefore tweakable effect in this circuit"1. Guitar Pedal X covered the launch and the pedal's place among that year's new spatial and time-based effects23.

Questions
Is the TomKat Super Heavy stereo?
Yes. It is a stereo device with Left and Right inputs and Left and Right outputs on the rear panel, so it can run a full stereo delay, drive and reverb chain. Note that it has no analog dry-through, so the dry signal is also converted.
How long can the delay time go on the Super Heavy?
The delay section runs up to 500ms. Delicious Audio described the delay and the overdrive as the straightforward parts of the pedal, with the reverb being the deepest and most tweakable effect in the circuit.
How many presets does the TomKat Super Heavy have?
It stores 7 factory presets and 7 user presets, 14 in total. Pressing the central knob enters Presets mode so you can recall and save your own settings.
What does the Freeze footswitch do on the Super Heavy?
The left footswitch triggers a momentary Freeze function that holds the wet signal, freezing the reverb and effects in place while you play over the top. Guitar Pedal X describes it as an Infinite Freeze / Pads function.
Is the TomKat Super Heavy analog or digital?
It is digital. Both Delicious Audio and Guitar Pedal X describe it as a digital device, and it has no analog dry-through path for the unprocessed signal.
Who designed the TomKat Super Heavy?
It was designed by Tom Kogut of TomKat pedals. The Super Heavy, launched in December 2024, was reported as his first pedal release in five years.
