The Walrus Audio Fundamental Lo-Fi Delay is a compact delay pedal that, in the maker's words, "turns familiar echoes into shifting, imperfect textures." It is the tenth release in Walrus Audio's budget Fundamental Series, announced in September 2026 and priced at $99.9912. Instead of clean, hi-fi repeats, it leans into degradation: filtered repeats, wow and flutter modulation, distortion and dark clouds of sound, all chosen from a three-way mode switch1.
Where the Fundamental Series Delay covers straightforward delay territory, the Lo-Fi Delay is the version for players who want their repeats to sound worn, warped and characterful rather than pristine324.
What it does: AM, Murk and Echo
The slide switch selects between three distinct delay algorithms, and they cover a wide spread of lo-fi character1.
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| AM | A bright delay with a high-pass filter, light harmonic distortion, and dual wow and flutter modulation on the repeats, which melt away into a hazy backdrop with gentle pitch movement1 |
| Murk | Dark, dense and responsive. Rolls off the high end and adds heavy distortion with dual low-frequency modulation, pushing repeats into a thick, undulating cloud1 |
| Echo | A rhythmic, multi-tap delay with analog-style tone shaping. At short delay times the taps gather into dense, lo-fi ambience that sits between an echo and a reverb1 |
The press picked up on the same character descriptions at launch. Gearnews described AM mode as "brighter, decaying echoes with a vintage radio texture that slowly dissolve," while Delicious Audio summed up Murk as delay clouds that "dynamically react to your pick attack" and Echo as "syncopated multi-tap rhythms packed with gritty degradation"34.
The controls: three sliders and a switch
Like every pedal in the Fundamental Series, the Lo-Fi Delay keeps the interface to three sliders and a three-way switch15. Gearnews found that approach welcome: "I really like the simple user interface, as everything is clearly labeled, so it looks like a fun pedal to play with"3.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Time | Sets the time between delayed repeats. Left brings echoes closer together, right adds space. Max delay time is one second1 |
| Feedback | Controls the number of repeats. Left for a single echo, right for long, evolving trails that approach infinite repeats1 |
| Mix | Sets the balance of the effect2 |
| Slide switch | Changes between the three delay algorithms1 |
The slide switch has a second job: when tap mode is engaged, it controls the tap division, choosing between quarter note, dotted eighth note and eighth note1.
Tap tempo
There is no separate tap footswitch. Instead, hold the bypass switch until the LED begins flashing; tap mode is then engaged and the bypass switch functions as a tap tempo switch1. Gearnews described the same process as holding down the footswitch for about a second3.
Power and connections
The pedal runs on an isolated 9 VDC, center-negative supply with a 100 mA minimum draw1. It is a mono pedal, with a single 1/4" unbalanced input and a single 1/4" unbalanced output, and input impedance of 1 MΩ and output impedance of 100 Ω1.
Walrus Audio recommends an isolated power supply for all of its pedals and does not recommend daisy-chain supplies1. The 100 mA minimum draw also rules out a battery.
Physically it is small: 2.23" high, 2.42" wide and 4.57" deep including jacks and the stomp switch, at half a pound1. The buffered bypass ships with trails mode active by default, so repeats keep ringing after you switch the pedal off1.
Where it came from
The Fundamental Series is Walrus Audio's affordable line, and every pedal in it shares the same layout: three parameter sliders and a three-position mode switch5. Guitar World noted at the series launch that each unit uses "neat-looking sliders, as opposed to control knobs"6. The Lo-Fi Delay, announced in September 2026, is officially the tenth release in the series2. It is available direct from the Walrus Audio webstore and at leading dealers, including Thomann and Sweetwater32.
What reviewers said
Early coverage has been positive about the pedal's character and price. Guitar Pedal X, reviewing the release, wrote23:
"For sure it delivers some cool hazy textures, and mono rig players should love this if they favour more lo-fi tones."
Gearnews highlighted the value: "With up to one second of delay available, this pedal can cover a lot of ground" at the $99.99 price3. Delicious Audio placed it within what it called Walrus's "acclaimed streamlined series"4.

Questions
Does the Walrus Fundamental Lo-Fi Delay have tap tempo?
Yes. Hold the bypass footswitch until the LED starts flashing to enter tap mode, and from then on the footswitch works as a tap tempo switch. The slide switch sets the tap division while tap mode is engaged, choosing between quarter note, dotted eighth note and eighth note.
How long is the delay time on the Walrus Lo-Fi Delay?
The maximum delay time is one second, set with the Time slider. Moving the slider left brings the repeats closer together and right adds more space between them. In Echo mode, short delay times make the multi-taps gather into dense lo-fi ambience.
Is the Walrus Lo-Fi Delay true bypass?
No. The pedal uses a buffered bypass, and it ships with trails mode active by default, so repeats continue to ring out after you disengage the pedal. Walrus Audio recommends an isolated power supply rather than a daisy chain.
Is the Walrus Lo-Fi Delay stereo?
No. It has one 1/4 inch unbalanced input and one 1/4 inch unbalanced output, so it is a mono pedal. Guitar Pedal X noted that mono rig players should love it if they favor lo-fi tones.
