The Walrus Audio Plainsman Clean Boost is a clean boost pedal: a simple level-raising pedal that adds volume to your signal without adding dirt. Walrus Audio describes it plainly: "Clean Boost will increase the volume of your instrument signal when employed." Boosts like this are typically used to push an amp or an overdrive harder, or to lift a part in a mix, and the Plainsman was Walrus Audio's take on that idea.1
The Plainsman Clean Boost is discontinued. Walrus Audio's own product page states: "This product is discontinued and no longer available."1
What it does
As a clean boost, the Plainsman's job is level, not color. Engaging it raises the volume of the instrument signal, which is the whole of what the maker claims for it. That makes it the kind of pedal players put at the end of a chain to kick a solo forward, or in front of a drive pedal to hit it with a hotter signal. For more on the type, see the site's page on Boost Pedals.1
The Plainsman family and where it sits
The Plainsman name covers more than one pedal. Alongside the single clean boost, Walrus Audio also made the Plainsman Dual Stage Clean Boost, a guitar effects pedal that Pedal of the Day featured in October 2014, described by the site as a "Plainsman Dual Stage Clean Boost" from Walrus Audio.2
- Plainsman Clean Boost: single clean boost pedal, discontinued1
- Plainsman Dual Stage Clean Boost: dual-stage clean boost pedal, featured by Pedal of the Day in 20142
Walrus Audio has since moved on to other boost designs, including the Walrus Audio DEFCON4 and the Walrus Audio Emissary, both of which combine boost with EQ or a second stage.

Questions
Is the Walrus Audio Plainsman Clean Boost still available?
No. Walrus Audio lists the Plainsman Clean Boost as discontinued and no longer available on its own product page. The pedal was part of the company's earlier boost offerings, alongside the dual-stage version of the Plainsman, and it has since left the maker's current lineup.
What does a clean boost pedal do?
A clean boost raises the volume of your instrument signal without adding distortion or changing the character of your tone. Walrus Audio describes the Plainsman Clean Boost exactly that way: it increases the volume of the instrument signal when engaged. Players typically use one to push an amp harder, lift a solo above a mix, or drive the front end of another pedal.
