The Wampler Brent Mason ReWired is a two-channel overdrive and distortion pedal, the third version of the signature pedal Wampler built for Nashville session guitarist Brent Mason. One channel is a Tube Screamer-style overdrive with a blend control; the other is a Marshall Plexi-style distortion. Each channel works on its own, both can run at once for stacked gain, and a Channel Order switch flips which one comes first without touching a cable1.
Guitar Pedal X describes it as a refined V3 of the Hot Wired V2, combining Wampler's Clarksdale Tube Screamer-style overdrive with its Plexi-Drive Marshall-style distortion2. It lists at $279.99, built in the U.S.A. with high-grade components, and finished in an exclusive Prime Silver that nods to Brent's infamous '67 Telecaster1.
Two channels: Tube Screamer-style overdrive and Plexi-style distortion
The ReWired is two separate circuits in one box. Wampler describes the overdrive side as built for warmth and maximum clarity, aimed at rhythm playing and chicken pickin', while the distortion channel is described as a perfect lead tone with a weighty "British" Plexi-like punch1. Guitar Pedal X traces the lineage: the overdrive comes from Wampler's Clarksdale, a vintage Tube Screamer take, and the distortion from the Plexi-Drive, Wampler's Marshall-style circuit2.
Each channel has its own footswitch, so you can use it as an overdrive, a distortion, or both at once. Guitar World's Paul Riario, reviewing the earlier V2 Hot Wired, noted the same arrangement: two separate foot switches, with both channels able to cascade together for stacked gain stages3. Guitar World's launch coverage of the V2 likewise reported that each channel is usable separately, making it a true two-in-one pedal, and that Channels 1 and 2 can be active simultaneously4.
| Channel | Voicing | What Wampler says it does |
|---|---|---|
| Overdrive | Tube Screamer-style, from the Clarksdale circuit2 | Warmth and maximum clarity, for rhythm and chicken pickin'1 |
| Distortion | Marshall Plexi-style, from the Plexi-Drive circuit2 | Weighty "British" Plexi-like punch, a lead tone1 |
The controls
Both channels carry independent Level, Gain, Tone and Fat controls, with a Blend control on the overdrive channel1. The Blend is Brent's signature control, letting you tune the amount of drive to your liking by mixing clean signal with the overdrive. Vintage Guitar's reviewer called the V2's blend function superb for dialing in the right mix of clean and drive, from subtle to out front5.
The big change over the V2 is in the low end. Where the Hot Wired v2 used three-position Fat/Normal/Fatter toggle switches on each channel4, the ReWired replaces them with granular Fat knobs2. The other new control is the Channel Order switch, which changes the stacking direction on the fly without swapping cables1.
| Control | Channel | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Level | Both | Sets the channel's output volume1 |
| Gain | Both | Sets the amount of drive1 |
| Tone | Both | Shapes the channel's EQ1 |
| Fat | Both | Granular low-end control, replacing the V2's three-position bass switches2 |
| Blend | Overdrive only | Mixes clean signal with the drive1 |
| Channel Order switch | Both | Flips which channel comes first, without changing cables1 |
Because the ReWired has two pairs of input and output jacks, you can run it with a single mono input and output cable, or connect each channel independently. Wampler points out that you can even connect a pedal in between both channels, suggesting a compressor or an EQ to sculpt the tone1.
From Hot Wired to ReWired
The original Hot Wired overdrive/distortion pedal came from Wampler Effects in collaboration with Brent Mason, designed to Brent's exact specifications, with volume, tone, gain and bass boost controls on each channel and both channels usable together for stacking tones6. The V2, announced in September 2012, revamped Channel One with a clean blend function and added three-position Fat/Normal/Fatter switches to both channels4. Riario's review put the V2 at $259.97 and highlighted the blend control as its added flexibility over version 13.
The ReWired, launched in late 2024, is effectively the V3. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson called it "very much the V3 Edition of the previously known Brent Mason Hot Wired Dual Overdrive/Distortion Pedal," adding the Order switch and swapping the three-way bass boost controls for the granular Fat controls2. The Hot Wired v2 is now discontinued7.

Who uses it
The pedal is used by Brent Mason himself, live and in the studio1. Mason's signature relationship with Wampler sits alongside signature models with Fender and PRS8. Brian Wampler set out to craft a signature pedal that would become the cornerstone of Brent's sound1.
What reviewers said
Guitar Pedal X found the ReWired "a really decent sounding and versatile pedal - suitable for duties way beyond the Country genre - works great for all types of Rock too"2. Vintage Guitar's review of the Hot Wired v2 noted that both channels, each with a Normal/Fat/Fatter toggle, are voiced with an emphasis on midrange tones5. Guitar World's coverage of the V2 said players can expect a range from light drive to heavy distortion when combining the channels4.

Questions
What power supply does the Wampler Brent Mason ReWired need?
It runs on 9V or 18V DC only, drawing 35mA at 9V and 40mA at 18V. Wampler says not to exceed 18V DC. Unlike the earlier Hot Wired v2, there is no battery connection, so it needs a DC power supply.
Can I put another pedal between the two channels?
Yes. The ReWired has two pairs of input and output jacks, so you can run it as a single mono pedal or connect each channel independently. Wampler suggests putting a compressor or an EQ between the two channels to sculpt the tone.
What warranty does the Brent Mason ReWired have?
It includes Wampler's limited 5-year warranty to the original purchaser against defects in material and workmanship. Pedals bought through the wamplerpedals.com website also carry a 30 day no questions asked return policy.
Is the Brent Mason ReWired only for country playing?
No. It is a signature pedal for Nashville session player Brent Mason and the overdrive side is voiced for rhythm and chicken pickin', but Guitar Pedal X found it suitable for duties way beyond country and said it works great for all types of rock too.
