YUKKE

1 pedal on Tonebox

On YUKKE's board

YUKKE is the bassist of MUCC, and his live rig is built around a pedalboard that feeds a rack-mounted Free The Tone LB-2 loop box, with the signal then split into separate line and amp paths to the PA, alongside a sub-bass chain and a dedicated upright bass piezo chain1.

The rig

YUKKE's main chain begins at a Shure UR4D+ wireless receiver. Its OUT-1 line out feeds the pedalboard, and the pedalboard in turn feeds the Free The Tone LB-2 loop box in the rack1. A Drawmer Dual Gate is connected to the LB-2's L1 loop, and the loop's on and off state is controlled remotely from a Free The Tone ARC-31.

Beyond the main chain, his system includes two further signal paths:

  • Sub chain: from the wireless receiver's OUT-1 XLR out, through a Valkyrie Spear Violence Booster, a Darkglass Electronics KAAMOS sub-bass unit, a United States Technology Vintage Direct passive DI and a Burl Audio B1D preamp channel, into a Solid State Logic SiX mixer and on to the PA1.
  • Upright bass piezo chain: from the wireless receiver's OUT-2 line out, through a Free The Tone Custom BASS BOOSTER, a BOSS TU-2 tuner and a Rupert Neve Designs Portico 5017 Mobile, into the SSL SiX mixer and to the PA1.

Signal path: LB-2 into a rear-panel splitter

The LB-2's output goes into a splitter mounted on the rear of the rack, which divides the signal into a line path and an amp path1. Each path reaches the PA by a different route:

PathChain to the PA

AmpGallien Krueger LEGACY 800 head into an Orange OBC410 cabinet, mic'd into an API 512c mic preamp, channel 31

The Burl Audio B1D carries three duties across the rig: channel 1 for the main line path, channel 2 for the sub chain, and the amp mic arrives via the API 512c on channel 31.

What is the Free The Tone LB-2?

The LB-2 is a loop box made by Free The Tone2. In YUKKE's rack it sits between the pedalboard and the splitter, with a Drawmer Dual Gate in its L1 loop and remote switching from the ARC-31. Its maker lists these connections:

  • DC9V input jack for an AC adapter2
  • One 1/4-inch TRS standard phone jack for control2

The LB-2 is sold through the Free The Tone online store2.

Questions

What pedalboard does YUKKE from MUCC use?

His bass signal runs from a Shure UR4D+ wireless receiver's OUT-1 line out into his pedalboard, and the pedalboard output feeds a Free The Tone LB-2 loop box mounted in his rack. The LB-2's loop is switched remotely from a Free The Tone ARC-3.

What is the Free The Tone LB-2?

The LB-2 is a loop box made by Free The Tone. It has a DC9V input jack for an AC adapter and a 1/4-inch TRS standard phone jack for control, and it is sold through the Free The Tone online store. YUKKE uses it in his rack as the interface between his pedalboard and the rest of his system.

Why does YUKKE split his bass signal into line and amp paths?

After the LB-2, his signal enters a splitter on the rear of the rack and is divided into a line path and an amp path. The line path goes through a Khan Audio VTDI RED tube DI and a Burl Audio B1D preamp to the PA, while the amp path drives a Gallien Krueger LEGACY 800 head and Orange OBC410 cabinet, mic'd through an API 512c.

Does YUKKE use a rack system?

Yes. His rack holds the Free The Tone LB-2 loop box, a Drawmer Dual Gate connected to the LB-2's L1 loop, and a rear-panel splitter. The loop's on and off switching is controlled remotely from a Free The Tone ARC-3.
