Boss announced the GX-1 and GX-1B on January 15, 2026, around NAMM 2026, as a pair of compact modeler multi-effects pedals for electric guitar and bass guitar¹. Both are priced at $229¹² and are available now².

The two units share the same broad specification, apart from instrument-specific amps and effects¹. The GX-1B has a blue chassis². Both carry Boss's AIRD (Augmented Impulse Response Dynamics) modeling, which the maker says provides tube amp dynamics¹². MusicRadar reports that the same algorithms used in the GX-100 are used here².

The layout includes three parameter knobs and a row of hexagon-shaped, color-coded LED buttons that show which effects are engaged; holding a button down opens its parameters for editing¹². Boss also added a feature called Gear Suite, which offers factory-designed settings for each individual amp and effect². The units work with the Boss Tone Studio app for sound editing and practice features including metronome and drum patterns¹².

Boss's own description of the range, as quoted by MusicRadar, is "pro-grade sound in ultra-portable platforms for practice, recording, and performance"².

Guitar World places the GX-1 against budget modelers from Mooer, Valeton, NUX and Zoom, noting its $229 price sits above the $189 NUX MG-300MKII and below the $299 NUX Amp Academy Stomp¹.
