Collision Devices announced the Crushturnal, an ambient multi-effects pedal, on May 28, 2024, and opened it for orders1. Delicious Audio reported that the pedal was available for preorder and would ship in the second half of June 20242.
The Crushturnal combines a Cathedral Shimmer Reverb, a digital delay, a bitcrusher/sample reducer and a clock-based step sequencer1. It has 12 control knobs in three color-coded sections and three footswitches: Sequencer, Digital Repeater (delay plus crusher) and Ambience (shimmer reverb)1. Holding the Ambience or Digital Repeater footswitch engages Kill Dry1. The bitcrusher can be applied to the dry signal, the wet signal or a mix of both1.
The sequencer section has four controls: Step Size, Mode, Rate and Clock1. Step Size runs from "tiny" through intervals to an octave, Mode sets clock multiplication, division or a random pattern, Rate runs from 2s to 5ms (0.5Hz to 200Hz) and Clock sets fidelity/resolution from 1kHz to 72kHz1. Tap tempo is available on the Sequencer footswitch1. Rear ports are Sync, EXP/CV In, Input, 9V DC, Output and CV Out1.
The pedal is mono in and mono out with an all-analog dry signal path, a maximum current draw of 500mA, a 9V DC negative-center supply and an input impedance of 1 MΩ1. Guitar Pedal X gives the size as 470 x 292 x 152mm and the weight as 300gr1. The US list price is $3901.
Guitar Pedal X reported that the project began as a custom edition of the Nocturnal Ambient Multi-FX before developing into its own design1. Delicious Audio described it as inspired by the glitch created by clock change on digital processors and in part by the Nocturnal, with which it shares the control layout2.
"Collision Devices' Crushturnal combines Cathedral Shimmer Reverb, Digital Delay, Bitcrusher/Sample Reducer and a clock-based Step Sequencer for dreamy, celestial textures."
