DOD releases Chthonic Fuzz on Halloween

DigiTech/DOD released the DOD Chthonic Fuzz on Halloween, October 31, the company said1. The fuzz pedal is a two-transistor silicon design built around a pair of 2N2222 transistors23.
DOD describes the pedal as expanding on a 1970s single-knob (Output) fuzz circuit, with engineers adding a separate Fuzz gain control and a passive tone control called Lustre1. MusicRadar describes Lustre as a passive, post-gain tone control2. The Fuzz and Output dials sit side by side at the top of the housing, with the smaller Lustre knob below the Fuzz control at the upper left1. The pedal has true bypass, a footswitch, a blue LED indicator and a Kraken/Cthulhu graphic by the artist behind the DOD Carcosa Fuzz artwork13. It runs on a linear 9V DC adapter or a 9V alkaline battery13.
DOD says the pedal is designed for brighter single-coil, P90, DeArmond or gold-foil pickups, and that it works with any pickup type1. Guitar.com reports DOD says it also works with PAF-style humbuckers3. DOD advises placing it first in the signal chain, as with many vintage-style fuzz boxes13, and MusicRadar reports DOD recommends setting all controls at noon before adjusting2.
"This fuzz was designed with brighter guitars and bright, clean amps in mind"
Premier Guitar gives an MSRP of $2081.
