DigiTech announces limited 50th Anniversary DOD Overdrive Preamp 250

DigiTech announced the DOD Overdrive Preamp 250 50th Anniversary Edition, a limited run of 1,974 hand-built units marking 50 years since the original 250 was introduced in 1974. The announcement is dated November 1, 2024.

The pedal is built on the original DOD 250 design and adds a three-way toggle for three clipping modes. Silicon mode is described as a faithful reproduction of the original's sound using an authentic LM741 op-amp. Ge/ASYM mode engages a germanium diode for asymmetrical clipping, which DigiTech says provides "a distinct tonal character with incredible touch response." Lift mode removes diode clipping from the signal path for clean boost use or op-amp rail clipping at higher levels. The op-amp is socketed and the pedal uses through-hole components, which DigiTech says makes modding easier, as the original 250 was known for. Controls are Gain and Level, with a bright LED indicator.

The DigiTech page states the pedal is "Hand-built in the USA, only 1,974 units will be made!" It lists assembly in Utah, USA, and design in Salt Lake City, UT, USA. Each unit ships with a 50th Anniversary badge, a pedal topper with hex wrench, a serial-numbered Certificate of Authenticity, four stickers, four guitar picks and an owner's manual.

DigiTech's page does not list a price for the 50th Anniversary Edition. It directs buyers to dealers and to Guitar Center, Musician's Friend, Sweetwater, American Musical Supply and zZounds. The page also describes the pedal as "the most versatile and expressive 250 pedal ever made," which is the maker's claim.
