Dr. Scientist has announced the Dungeon Crawler, a high-gain distortion pedal, with a maker's list price of $249 USD1. Delicious Audio reported the pedal on September 15, 20262.

The maker describes it as a MOSFET-based distortion "designed to take a clean amp all the way to a death metal tone. Or a doom metal tone, or a black metal tone.. an extreme metal tone!"1. It is built around three high-gain MOSFET stages and six gyrator EQ stages1. Guitar Pedal X identifies the clipping stages as 2N7000 MOSFETs and the EQ stages as TL074 JFET-input op-amps3. The maker says the Grind knob "adds the output of a silicon rectifier to take the tone even further"1.

The pedal has 11 knobs and two footswitches13. The knobs are Gain, Grind, Volume, Lows, Lower Mids, Upper Mids, Highs, Mix, Thick, Presence and Gate; the second footswitch engages a Boost for more gain and volume1. The maker lists the EQ points as Lows post gain, Lower Mids at 420Hz, Upper Mids at 1000Hz, Highs as a 3kHz shelving filter, Thick as a 130Hz pre-gain filter and Presence as a resonant 1000Hz filter1. Guitar Pedal X gives the Lows as 90Hz and describes Presence as wide-Q3.

The maker also lists a custom comparator-based noise gate, a wet/dry mix control, top-mounted jacks, film capacitors in the signal path, and construction by hand in British Columbia, Canada1. Guitar Pedal X reports two LEDs that shift from amber to brighter red with input gain3. Delicious Audio calls the pedal "the brand's most amp-like and ferocious distortion pedal to date"2. Guitar Pedal X reports availability direct from Dr. Scientist in Canada and from Joe's Pedals in the UK, among other international dealers3.
