EarthQuaker Devices unveils Sunn O))) Life Pedal V3

November 4, 2023 · 4 sources

EarthQuaker Devices announced the third iteration of its Sunn O))) Life Pedal V3 on November 4, 2023, according to Delicious Audio¹. Guitar World and Premier Guitar both published coverage dated November 4, 2022²³, and a Premier Guitar first-look video carries a 2022 publication date⁴, so the sources disagree on the date of the announcement.

The pedal combines a distortion, a blendable analog octave up and a booster in one compact unit¹. The circuit draws on the Shin-Ei FY2 and FY6 octave-up fuzzes and the RAT circuit, with an added boost, and the signal path runs Octave > Distortion > Boost¹. The octave section has been fine tuned to make it more pronounced without losing the bottom end, and a third footswitch using Flexi-Switch Technology was added for the octave². An Octave EXP input accepts an expression pedal to control the analog octave blend¹. The clipping switch offers three modes: OpAmp (no diodes), Asymm (two silicon diodes and one LED) and Symm (the stock double silicon diode configuration from V1)¹.

Guitar World gives a US list price of $299³. EarthQuaker CEO Julie Robbins said the pedal would have a permanent place in the line².
