Electronic Audio Experiments releases Pile collaboration Mirror House V2 pitch-shifter

May 27, 2025 · 2 sources

Electronic Audio Experiments collaborated with Boston band Pile on the V2 Signature Mirror House Slippery Pitch-Shifter & Oscillator, a pitch-shifting pedal priced at $2491. Delicious Audio reported the pedal on May 27, 2025, and Guitar Pedal X published its write-up the following day12.

The pedal creates two pitch-shifted versions of the input signal that move in opposite directions, which the maker says produces effects from subtle detuning and chorus to microtonal clusters, dissonant harmonies and glissandos2. Pitch shifts can be static or dynamic depending on the mode selected2. Detune mode offers a semitone range, Shift mode is quantized up to an octave in both directions, and both respond to playing dynamics via an envelope; the new Flutter mode is similar to Detune but applies the effect following a random LFO2. In Shift mode the Amount knob selects 13 intervals, from unison through minor and major seconds, thirds, sixths and sevenths, a perfect fourth, tritone, perfect fifth and +1 octave1. Version 2 adds improved envelope sensitivity and lower noise2.

The controls are Mix, Amount, Mode, Voices and Animate12. Mix sets the balance between dry and pitch-shifted signal, and fully clockwise removes the dry signal2. Amount controls the intensity of static pitch shifting, moving one voice higher and the other lower2. Voices blends the higher and lower voices, with center giving an equal mix2. Animate adds modulation to Amount: envelope-based in Shift and Detune modes, and a random LFO in Flutter mode2. Guitar Pedal X lists suggested settings including Detune, Disorient, Vibrato, Stacked Harmonies and Divebomb1.

Pile vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Rick Maguire described the pedal as a "Slipper Pith-Shifter," which Guitar Pedal X characterized as leaning into detuning and instability1.

"This pitch-modulation is best described as a deliberately imprecise, warbly and deliberately loose and laggy delivery - hence the 'Slipper' descriptor!"

Guitar Pedal X placed the circuit alongside other recent John Snyder designs, including the Prismatic Wall, and called it "a tiny bit reminiscent of EQD's Rainbow Machine" while describing it as its own thing1.
