JAM Pedals releases Tiny Amp Destroyer with Stu Mackenzie

JAM Pedals Tiny Amp Destroyer

The JAM Pedals Tiny Amp Destroyer is listed on the maker's site, which describes it as "our original three-footswitch gain machine, combining two independent drive stages with a standalone treble booster"12. The maker says the circuit began with Mackenzie pushing two Boomsters into a pawn-shop amp, and that JAM "did not simply clone that setup" but used the resulting behavior as the basis for a new design12.

The two drive stages are labeled G1 and G2. Per the maker, G2 is "the more restrained stage, covering lower-gain breakup and driven tones," while G1 "runs hotter, moving into heavier overdrive and distortion"12. Both share a Level control and active Bass and Treble controls with boost and cut12. A MAGIC control shifts the response toward "the compressed, boxy and unstable character of a tiny amplifier being pushed beyond its limits," and Notch "progressively removes a key frequency band as you turn it up"12. The third footswitch runs an independent treble booster based on the maker's Rooster, placed before G1 and G2 in the signal path12. An internal DIP switch selects between Full and Standard booster voicings, and the pedal ships in Full mode12. A G1 Global Bypass mode, selected by holding G1 while connecting power, lets the G1 footswitch control the whole pedal12.

"TAD is not an amp in a box. It is the sound of the box losing the fight."

The artwork was created by Jason Galea, described by the maker as King Gizzard's longtime visual collaborator12. JAM states that "every limited artwork pedal is a one-of-a-kind hand-painted piece"12.

The maker's site lists the pedal and a B-stock version without a US price12. On the September 25 episode of That Pedal Show, host Dan described it as a collaboration with Mackenzie and said the MAGIC button "shifts the overall voicing closer to the response of the small amp"3.
