JHS Pedals has discontinued the Crayon, the maker's product page states. The page carries the line "This product was discontinued in September 2026"1.
The Crayon was a compact pedal built as a simplified version of the JHS Colour Box. The maker describes it as a box with "all the color and characteristics of a vintage studio preamp when cranked"1. Its controls are Master, Pre-Vol, Tilt and a Hi-Pass toggle. The Master sets overall volume, while the Pre-Vol works as a gain control that runs from gritty preamp drive to gated fuzz. The Tilt is an active EQ: flat at 12 o'clock, clockwise boosts highs and cuts bass, counterclockwise boosts bass and cuts highs. The Hi-Pass toggle cuts low end, and a dip switch on the right side selects a 200Hz or 750Hz cut1.
The maker lists the pedal's features as preamp DI tones from low gain grit to gated fuzz, an active EQ for bass or guitar, and a Hi-Pass for lo-fi sounds1. It runs on standard 9V DC negative power, draws 15mA and measures 2.6 by 4.8 by 1.6 inches1. The page lists a price of $199.001.
"Thus we decided it was time to pare it down and give guitar players and bass players a simplified version"
The Crayon's gain range reaches into fuzz territory, a category covered on the site's fuzz pedals page.
