JHS Pedals adds Tape Delay, Rotary Chorus and Oil Can Delay to 3 Series

JHS Pedals announced the Rotary Chorus, Tape Delay and Oil Can Delay on February 17, 2025, in a video in which founder Josh Scott introduced the three units¹. All three are part of the 3 Series, which MusicRadar describes as the company's stripped down and simplified range with a three-knob layout and a toggle switch². Each pedal takes 9V DC from a pedalboard power supply and costs $99². The additions take the 3 Series from 13 effects to 16, according to Scott¹; Guitar Pedal X likewise puts the range at 16 pedals³.

The Rotary Chorus emulates the sound of a Leslie rotating speaker². Its knobs control Volume, Intensity and Speed, and the toggle adds what Scott calls "a bit of room echo or a bit of space"¹. Scott said the Speed control can simulate the ramp and brake of a rotating cabinet¹. Guitar Pedal X describes it as "sort of a Leslie style of modulation, but obviously a mono take"³.

The Tape Delay simulates early tape delay units, with Echoplex and Roland Space Echo cited as inspirations²¹. Controls are Mix, Tape Speed, given as a range of 15ms to 950ms, and Repeats². The toggle applies the "mild modulation, warble, and flutter" of aging tape units²; Scott said the flutter is "a bit randomized"¹. Delicious Audio states the pedal uses a digital circuit to replicate tape tones and wow and flutter⁴.

The Oil Can Delay draws on the oil can delay pioneered by Ray Lubow and patented in 1959, which used a drum and belt system². Controls are Mix, Speed, which adjusts delay time from 100ms to 330ms, and Feedback, with a toggle selecting two intensities of modulation on the repeats². Scott said he built an earlier one-off version as a gift for Wilco's Nels Cline²¹.

Guitar Pedal X reported that all three would be arriving with international dealers "any day now"³.
