JHS released a limited edition Oil Can Delay in 2023 within a "blacked out" series, according to Delicious Audio1. The pedal was one of six limited editions Reverb released with partner companies that year, a group that also included the Line 6 DL4 MkII, the EarthQuaker Devices Zoar, the Old Blood Noise Endeavors BL-52 Phase Repeater, the Death By Audio Space Ensemble and the Walrus Audio Meraki2.
The circuit was born from a request by Wilco's guitarist Nels Cline, Delicious Audio reports1. The controls are Mix, Speed and Feedback, with an added +/- toggle that delivers two different options for modulation intensity1. Delicious Audio describes the pedal's aim as the "syrupy, dark, and wobbly repeats generated by the semi-forgotten technology powering oil can delays," and notes that few pedals emulate that sound1.
In a JHS video published on November 17, 2023, Josh Scott described the pedal as "a brand new pedal this is like a huge brand new JHS release" and said there are 500 units marked at $329.992. The same video lists the other Blacked Out editions and their unit counts and prices: 500 DL4 MkII units at $329.99, 500 BL-52 units at $179, 200 Zoar units, and 500 Space Ensemble units at $3002. The Meraki is given as 500 units at $599.992.
"This year, Reverb partnered up with six companies to release limited editions of some of the industry's favorite pedals as well as some new releases, including the brand new Oil Can Delay from yours truly!"
Delicious Audio, in a page updated June 30, 2025, reports that the limited edition is "now becoming part of the regular 3 Series production with the 3 Series Oil Can Delay"1. The two accounts differ on timing: the JHS video presents the Oil Can Delay as a new release in November 20232, while Delicious Audio dates the limited edition to 2023 and describes the regular 3 Series version as a later step1. Delicious Audio gives no price for the 3 Series version1.
