Red Panda announces Radius MIDI ring modulator and frequency shifter

Red Panda announced the Radius, a digital stereo ring modulator and frequency shifter, on February 16, 2024. The pedal carries an MSRP of $349¹².

The Radius uses a digital design with a 96kHz sampling rate and has stereo inputs and outputs¹. Red Panda says its "eight-quadrant multiplier" algorithm transitions smoothly from ring modulation to frequency shifting¹. The pedal offers a continuous mix between ring modulation and frequency shifting, selectable 2X frequency ratios for upper and lower sidebands, and frequency shifting with feedback². Carrier frequency pitch tracking is monophonic, at plus or minus 100 percent, and the carrier oscillator can be played via MIDI¹².

Controls include wet/dry mix, pitch track from -100 to +100, carrier oscillator frequency, ring mod/frequency shift mix, modulation rate and modulation amount². The LFO has triangle, square, random and intelligent random waveforms, plus step modulator, X modulation and envelope follower modes². There are four onboard presets, 100 via MIDI, and an expression pedal can be assigned to any combination of knobs². The rear panel has stereo in and out on TRS, a control port, Mini-B USB and a 9V DC input drawing 250mA².

Guitar Pedal X reported on January 22, 2024 that the Radius was available from the Red Panda Lab webstore for $349². The gearnews report of February 16 gives the same $349 MSRP¹. Guitar Pedal X later listed the Radius among its 38 finalists in a 2024 roundup of modulation, pitch and utility pedals, describing it as covering "all your Ring Mod needs" while expanding into other modulation effects³.
