SolidGoldFX has launched the BETA-V, a bass preamp and overdrive effects pedal, Guitar.com reported on March 31, 20231. Guitar World reported the pedal on April 5, 2023, describing it as an attempt to pack the tone of a hefty Ampeg bass rig into a compact pedal2.
The BETA-V reworks and expands the brand's classic Beta bass architecture, according to Guitar.com, with the low-pass filter now offering two settings for bumped or scooped mids, plus a true bypass switch1. Guitar World reports controls for Volume, Presence, Drive and Body, alongside a dial for blending in the low-pass filter, which a mini-toggle sets to a mid-bump or scoop sound or bypasses completely2. The Presence and Body controls form an active two-band post-gain EQ, which Guitar World says should help sculpt tones without sacrificing the center frequencies2. Guitar.com describes the same EQ as allowing players to boost or cut highs and lows with a flat response in the center1.
The Drive control has been reworked for lower gain applications or hotter basses, according to Guitar.com1. Guitar World reports the Drive circuit has reportedly been adapted to offer more sweep at the outset, giving high-output basses more room to breathe, and says it should also suit use as an always-on low-gain option2. The pedal has top-mounted jacks and runs on 9-18 V DC1, and it is handmade in Montreal21.
Guitar World gives a US price of $1992. Guitar.com says the pedal can be bought directly from solidgoldfx.com1.
