Valeton announces VLP-200 dual looper pedal with drum machine

Valeton announced the Valeton VLP-200, a dual looper pedal with a built-in drum machine, on September 4, 2024, according to Delicious Audio, which reported the US price as $129¹.

The pedal has two footswitches that independently control recording and playback of LOOP 1 and LOOP 2, each with endless overdubs²¹. Two collaboration modes govern how the loops interact. In SERIAL mode, the loops play in sequence; Valeton says LOOP 2 enters a waiting mode and begins recording immediately after LOOP 1 completes its current loop². In FREE mode, the two loops play simultaneously and their recording durations do not affect each other². Delicious Audio describes SERIAL mode as facilitating verse and chorus changes and FREE mode as facilitating more complex layering¹.

The drum machine holds 100 rhythm patterns plus a metronome, built from 24-bit, 48 kHz drum samples across 16 rhythm styles². When recording starts while the drum machine is active, the VLP-200 automatically quantizes phrases so playback stays synchronized with the drums². A CTRL connector takes an external footswitch, with a single switch toggling the drum machine and a long press accessing Tap Tempo². MIDI IN/OUT uses 1/8-inch TRS connectors².

Valeton lists 99 project storage spaces, each holding a single loop of up to 4 minutes of stereo WAV audio at 24-bit, 48 kHz, for about 7 hours total². An INST/MIC switch on INPUT-L adapts the input for instruments or dynamic microphones². Each footswitch has a four-color LED halo (red, green, blue, yellow) indicating recording, playback, overdubbing, standby, delete and undo/redo². There is a 3.5mm headphone output and a USB 2.0 Type-C port for importing and exporting audio and updating firmware with Windows and MacOS software².

The chassis is cast metal². Delicious Audio's write-up calls the pedal "a great option for songwriting, practice, and live performance" and states that "It does the layering just as well as any more expensive looper out there"¹.
