The Browne Ethane Dual Overdrive is a limited-edition dual overdrive pedal from Browne Amplification, designed in collaboration between Andertons Music Co. and Browne Amplification1. It puts two of the maker's most requested circuits in one enclosure: the Carbon V2 and the Gritador2. Browne describes the pairing as its heavily tweaked and modified take on a Bluesbreaker and Tube Screamer amalgamation1.
Only 200 units are being made, with just 100 sold in the UK exclusively by Andertons1.
The two circuits in one box
The Ethane is the fusion of the Carbon and the Gritador, two circuits Browne calls its most revered and coveted1. The Carbon side has its own history: it originated as the blue side of Browne's Protein Dual Overdrive before becoming a standalone pedal3. Browne calls the Carbon a transparent overdrive inspired by a legendary "blue" circuit, and describes it as a versatile overdrive allowing drive options from clean boost all the way to screaming overdrive lead tones3.
The Gritador completes the pair, giving the Ethane two distinct overdrive voices that can be stacked or, with split mode engaged, run separately12.
Split mode and using the sides independently
An internal switch allows the player to use each side independently with a looper1. This is the feature that separates a dual overdrive like the Ethane from simply owning two separate pedals: with split mode active, each side can sit in its own loop or be switched in any order a looper allows.
Split mode requires a TRS to Dual Mono cable to route the two sides separately1.
Power and connections
The Ethane runs on 9V DC with a negative tip, drawing about 100mA2. The power supply is not included, so you need your own 9V center-negative supply2. At roughly 100mA it draws more current than a simple analog boost, which is worth checking against a small daisy-chain supply's per-output rating.
The enclosure measures 120mm x 94mm x 56mm including knobs, with top-mounted jacks2. Top-mounted jacks keep the pedal's footprint on a board tight, since cables plug in above the enclosure rather than beside it.
Finishes and availability
Browne lists six color options for the Ethane2:
- Gold Folded
- Aqua Copper Vein
- Matte Black
- Silver
- Blue Silver Vein
- Black Silver Vein
The enclosure features a Black Silver Vein powder coat1.
The Ethane is a limited edition: only 200 are being made, and just 100 of those are sold in the UK, exclusively by Andertons1.
Where it is made

Does the Browne Ethane Dual Overdrive come with a power supply?
