The Caline DCP-11 Andes is a dual pedal that puts a boost and an overdrive in one enclosure. It is part of the DCP Dual Series, a Caline range built on the idea of pairing two of the company's existing circuits in a single box rather than selling them separately. In the Andes, the boost side is the circuit from Caline's CP-97 Recluse Boost, and the overdrive side is Caline's CP-12 Pure Sky Overdrive, which Pedal of the Day describes as a clone of the ever-popular Timmy pedal1.

What each side does

The boost side gives up to +20dB of boost, which Pedal of the Day describes as "wicked" boost, and it carries just one knob, so it works as a straightforward level lift1. The same Recluse Boost circuit also appears on the boost side of the DCP-01 Artemis Compressor Boost, another pedal in the DCP series2.

The overdrive side has four controls:

ControlSideWhat it does
VolumeOverdriveSets the output level
GainOverdriveSets the amount of drive
BassOverdriveShapes the low end
TrebleOverdriveShapes the high end

On the overdrive side's character, Pedal of the Day writes that it is "Good for retaining the frequencies you like in your guitar and amp, while giving everything a little push and grit."1

The Timmy connection

The Pure Sky circuit at the heart of the Andes' overdrive side has a documented lineage. Pedal of the Day calls the CP-12 Pure Sky "a clone of the ever-popular Timmy pedal"1, and Stefan Karlsson, writing on Guitar Pedal X, goes further: "The Pure Sky is supposed to be a straight up clone of the Timmy"3. For a player, that places the Andes' drive side in the transparent-overdrive camp, where the aim is to keep the guitar's own voice intact while adding gain.

Where it sits in the Caline range

The DCP Dual Series pairs Caline circuits in various combinations. Alongside the Andes, the series includes the DCP-06 Sundance Special Overdrive Boost, which combines the Orange Burst overdrive with the Recluse Boost, and the DCP-01 Artemis, which pairs the CP-47 Pressure Tank Compressor with the Recluse Boost2. If you want the Recluse Boost on its own, Caline sells it as the CP-97 Recluse Boost; the Andes is the two-in-one version with a Timmy-style drive beside it.

What reviewers said

Pedal of the Day's verdict on the Andes was positive on value and sound: "the Caline [DCP-11 Andes Boost Overdrive] is an affordable and excellent-sounding way to achieve your desired tones"1.

Questions

How much boost does the Caline Andes give?

According to Pedal of the Day's review, the boost side of the DCP-11 Andes gives up to +20dB of boost. That is enough headroom to push an amp or lift a solo well above the rest of a mix, and the boost section carries just a single knob, so it is a set-and-forget level control rather than a shaping tool.

Is the Caline DCP-11 Andes based on a Timmy circuit?

The overdrive side is. Pedal of the Day identifies it as Caline's CP-12 Pure Sky Overdrive, which the reviewer calls a clone of the ever-popular Timmy pedal. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson has likewise written that the Pure Sky is supposed to be a straight up clone of the Timmy. The boost side comes from a different Caline circuit, the CP-97 Recluse Boost.

What is the Caline DCP Dual Series?

The DCP Dual Series is a Caline pedal range that pairs two of the company's existing circuits in a single enclosure. The DCP-11 Andes combines the CP-97 Recluse Boost with the CP-12 Pure Sky overdrive. Other pedals in the series include the DCP-06 Sundance Special Overdrive Boost and the DCP-01 Artemis Compressor Boost.

What controls does the overdrive side of the Andes have?

The overdrive side carries four controls: Volume, Gain, Bass and Treble. The Bass and Treble knobs give you tone shaping before and after the gain stage in the manner of the Timmy-style circuit it is based on, while Volume sets the output level and Gain sets how much drive the section produces.
