The DOD FX76 Punkifier is a discontinued fuzz and overdrive blend pedal from the mid-1990s. Instead of stacking two effects in series, it splits the guitar signal into two completely separate pathways, one a smooth mid-focused overdrive and the other a transistor fuzz, and blends them back together with a single control called Punk12. DOD describes the result as "an in your face Overdrive/Distortion/Fuzz which could blend either circuits together creating new tones or isolating the effects by adjusting the Punk (Mix) knob"1.

What it does

The Punkifier's approach differs from a typical fuzz or overdrive pedal, where one circuit shapes the whole signal. Here the two circuits run side by side. At one end of the Punk control you hear the overdrive on its own, at the other the fuzz on its own, and in between the two pathways mix, which is where the pedal produces tones that neither circuit makes by itself12. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson described the two halves as "separate smooth mid-focused overdrive and transistor fuzz pathways"2.

History and status

The FX76 came out of what Guitar Pedal X calls "the short-lived DOD FX76 Punkifier from the 1995-1997 Jason Lamb era"2. The pedal is no longer in production1.

The Punkifier is discontinued, so any example you find will be used. Guitar Pedal X reported 13 units listed on Reverb.com, ranging from around $200 to $500, with excellent-condition examples at around $400, as of October 20262.

Pedals based on the Punkifier

Two current pedals revisit the circuit:

  • PastFx Punkifriar: PastFx's product page describes it as "based upon the now discontinued DOD FX76 PUNKIFIER pedal"1.
  • Catalinbread Cold One: In October 2026, Guitar Pedal X reported Catalinbread's release of the Cold One, a new take on the FX76 Punkifier that adds a Glitch control2.

If you are looking at current DOD fuzzes instead, the DOD Carcosa Fuzz, the DOD Chthonic Fuzz and the DOD FX66 FlashBack Fuzz Tone are covered on their own pages.

Questions

Is the DOD FX76 Punkifier still made?

No. DOD made the FX76 Punkifier during the short 1995 to 1997 Jason Lamb era, and it has since been discontinued. Used examples turn up on Reverb, and makers such as PastFx and Catalinbread have built pedals based on the same circuit idea.

What does the Punk knob do?

The Punk control is a blend between the pedal's two separate signal paths: a smooth, mid-focused overdrive and a transistor fuzz. Turned one way it isolates the overdrive, the other way the fuzz, and in between it mixes the two circuits together to create tones neither circuit makes alone.
