The Gervana Xin Wei Delay/Chorus Dual Pedal is a two-footswitch pedal that puts an analog chorus and an analog-voiced delay in one enclosure. Gervana announced it in October 2018 at a street price of $149.991. Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio described it as "a two footswitch parallel Chorus/Delay"2.

What it does

The Xin Wei combines two effect types that players often run together: chorus for width and movement, and delay for repeats and space. Gervana lists the pedal with 9-volt operation and a standard DC input1. The launch announcement gives a street price of $149.991.

Because the two effects are independent and parallel, each has its own footswitch. You can run the chorus alone, the delay alone, or both at once12.

Controls and signal path

The delay controls sit on the top of the pedal. According to Premier Guitar's report on the launch, "The delay time, delay repeats and delay volume are easily controlled by the knobs on the top of the pedal," covering delay time, the number of repeats, and the delay's level in the mix1.

The order of the two effects is fixed. Gervana states that "the signal path moves from the input through the chorus effect, then the delay effect"1. In practice, that means the chorus modulates your dry signal first, and the delay then repeats the chorused sound.

Power

The Xin Wei runs on 9-volt power through a standard DC input1. It cannot run on a battery: Premier Guitar's announcement notes that "due to the power draw, this pedal does not operate on a battery"1. Delicious Audio confirms it "operates with a standard 9V power supply (not included)"2.

No power supply is included with the pedal, and it will not run on a battery. Make sure your supply or pedalboard power output can handle its current draw before adding it to a daisy chain12.

Questions

Does the Gervana Xin Wei run on a battery?

No. Premier Guitar's announcement notes that because of the power draw, the pedal does not operate on a battery. It runs on 9-volt power through a standard DC input, and Delicious Audio adds that it works with a standard 9V power supply, which is not included. Plan to have a dedicated 9V supply or a pedalboard power output with enough current available.

Can I use the chorus and delay separately?

Yes. The Xin Wei is built as a two-footswitch parallel chorus and delay, with independent chorus and delay effects. Each effect has its own footswitch, so you can run the chorus alone, the delay alone, or both together.

Does the signal hit the chorus or the delay first?

The signal path moves from the input through the chorus effect first, then through the delay effect. That ordering matters if you care about how the two effects interact, since the delay repeats will carry the chorus modulation.

Is the Xin Wei analog or digital?

Gervana describes the pedal as using pure analog circuitry. The chorus channel is described as providing a warm, lush effect, and the delay is analog-voiced.
