Hotone Verbera

ReverbHybrid
List price
$299

The Hotone Verbera is a digital stereo reverb pedal that puts two reverb engines in one box: an IR convolution reverb, which reproduces the sound of real spaces and hardware from captured impulse responses, and a second algorithmic reverb RockBoard's PedalPedia calls XR, which can be layered on top1. Convolution reverb is rare in pedal form; gearnews' Julian Schmauch notes the Verbera "features a rather rare reverb technology for pedals: convolution reverb"2. Hotone lists it in its NeonGlow Series3.

The pedal ships with 120 built-in IRs of real-world spaces and original creations1, and Guitar World's buying guide notes there are 1024 more spaces for user IRs, including huge spaces and rare plate reverbs4. It stores up to 200 presets1. Delicious Audio describes the result as "a near-infinite tonal palette, from realistic room emulations to surreal, textured atmospheres"5.

Convolution and algorithmic reverb in one pedal

Convolution reverb works by playing an impulse response (IR), a recorded snapshot of how a space or a piece of hardware reacts to sound, over your signal. MusicRadar describes the Verbera as "built around a rather unique dual-engine design, with one side capturing the nuanced reflections of real" spaces through convolution, the other adding the algorithmic XR reverb6. The two engines can be combined, which is what Hotone means by "dual reverb"1.

The built-in IR library includes captures of well-known hardware, among them7:

The pedal also has a Clone function, reported at announcement with the IR cloning capability and 1024 IR capacity83, and Pedal of the Day highlights its instant IR loading3. Delicious Audio sums up the appeal: the Verbera "caters to tone purists seeking accurate room emulations, sound designers crafting hybrid acoustic/digital sp"aces and live performers needing seamless preset switching5.

Controls and display

Operation splits into two layers, color-coded by LED: amber for the IR convolution side, blue for the algorithmic side. Guitar World's reviewer Daryl explains: "When the pedal shines in an eye-catching amber hue, you're in the realm of IR reverb; switch to blue, and you're explori"ng the algorithmic options9. A high-resolution LCD screen handles navigation7.

Blue / ExtraExtra Decay, Pre-Delay, Modulation Depth, Extra Dry/Wet Mix, ALT (flip between layers), Bypass / Freeze Footswitch Mode8

Hotone also lists full control over reverb tone with parameters like Attack, Tone, Pre-delay and Mod1. Dual footswitch modes cover preset switching, bypass and Freeze functionality1, and external control is available via an expression pedal or MIDI for more parameters1.

Power and connections

The Verbera runs on 9V DC, center negative, drawing 1000mA18.

At 1000mA this pedal needs a proper high-current output on a power supply. It cannot run on a typical 100mA daisy-chain tap, and there is no battery option.

Connections are stereo throughout: a TS/TRS input, Left and Right TS outputs, USB-C, MIDI In and MIDI Thru on the front leading edge8. MusicRadar lists the connectivity as a 6.3 mm stereo jack input, two 6.3 mm stereo jack outputs, and two 3.5 mm stereo mini jacks for MIDI/EXP6. The impulse responses are available in full stereo if desired2. Dimensions are 125.5mm wide by 84mm deep by 62.5mm high, and it weighs 485g8.

What reviewers said

Guitar World's review found the hardware well made: "The build quality feels solid, which is what I've come to expect from Hotone, and I'm pleased to say that the Verbera li"ves up to that standard, rating build quality at four and a half stars9. Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson, who bought one for £229 at Andertons, was blunt about the value: "the value of this pedal is hard to beat"8. Delicious Audio called it a rare hybrid and an unusually flexible spatial toolkit5.

On price, sources differ slightly on the UK figure: Guitar Pedal X gave $299 / £249 in June 20268 and $299 / £229 in May 202610; the US price of $299 is consistent across both.

Questions

Can you load your own IRs into the Hotone Verbera?

Yes. The pedal ships with 120 built-in IRs covering real-world spaces and original creations, and it supports instant IR loading. There is room for 1024 user IR presets, so you can add your own captures alongside the stock library.

Does the Hotone Verbera have true bypass?

Sources disagree on the bypass. MusicRadar lists it as true bypass, while Guitar Pedal X's review specifies an analog dry-through path plus a buffer. Hotone itself describes a pure analog dry-through circuit design, which keeps the dry signal untouched when the effect is engaged.

Is the Hotone Verbera stereo?

Yes. It has stereo input and output with selectable input modes, a 6.3 mm stereo jack input and two 6.3 mm stereo jack outputs. The impulse responses are available in full stereo if desired.

How many presets does the Hotone Verbera hold?

Up to 200 presets, alongside storage for a large number of IRs. Dual footswitch modes cover preset switching, bypass and Freeze functionality, and the Preset knob can be held for an instant save.

Does the Verbera have a freeze function?

Yes. The dual footswitch modes include Freeze functionality alongside preset switching and bypass, so a reverb tail can be held sustainably while you play over it.
