The Joyo R-09 Vision is a dual-channel modulation pedal from Joyo, part of the company's R Series12. Each of its two channels carries nine effects, giving eighteen modulation types in one box, and the pedal supports stereo input and output through two 6.35mm input jacks and two outputs12. Announced in February 2019, it was positioned as a modulation pedal for players who want programmability alongside an analog feel, at a fraction of the cost of something like a Strymon Mobius3.
What it does
The Vision runs two modulation effects at once, one per channel, and each channel can be dialed in independently. Joyo describes it as a dual channel modulation pedal supporting stereo input and output, with each channel featuring nine effects adjustable through an independent tap tempo control1. A 3-position toggle switch in the middle of the panel chooses the sequence of the two effects' output, so a player can set which modulation hits the signal first4.
The two channels draw from two different effect lists, as reviewed by Pedal of the Day2:
| Mode A | Mode B |
|---|---|
| Modulated-Phaser | Optical-Tremolo |
| Chorus | Small-Chorus |
| Stereo-Phaser | Low-Bit |
| Flanger | Auto-Wah |
| Ring Modulator | Analog-Flanger |
| Rotary | Phaser |
| Tremolo | Octave |
| Liquid-Phaser | Stutter |
| Tri-Chorus | Vibrato |
That spread covers the familiar ground of chorus, flanger, phaser, tremolo and vibrato, plus less common fare like a ring modulator, a rotary simulation, an octave effect and a stutter2.
The controls
Each of the two effects has its own set of three knobs, so both channels can be shaped at once without menu diving14:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| SPEED/RATE | Sets the speed of the modulation, independently per channel14 |
| CONTROL | Adjusts the effect's main character parameter, independently per channel14 |
| DEPTH/MIX | Sets the intensity or mix of the effect, independently per channel14 |
Beyond the knobs, the panel holds the 3-position toggle for effect order, two footswitches, and an LED mode setting with three options: Sync, Always and Off14. Each mode carries the same Speed/Rate, Control and Depth/Mix controls, as Pedal of the Day noted in its review2.
The Vision draws 170mA at 9V DC, center negative, and has no battery option1. That current draw is well above a typical compact analog pedal, so it is better served by a dedicated isolated output than a small daisy chain.
Where it came from and what reviewers said
Joyo announced the R-09 Vision in February 20193. Writing at Gearnews, Jef framed it against the high end of the market:
"a lot of players want warmth and an analogue feel as well as programmability when it comes to modulation. OK, so those"
Pedal of the Day reviewed it in September 2020, covering the eighteen effects across two modes, tap tempo, stereo I/O, series/parallel routing and the sub-$100 price, and closed with a clear verdict214:
"Cheers to Joyo on creating an affordable, versatile and powerful modulation pedal for players of all skills and budgets"
The review noted the pedal costs less than 100 bucks, which is the most recent published price figure for it2.

Questions
Does the Joyo R-09 Vision take a battery?
No. Joyo lists the R-09 Vision as not battery powered, so it needs an external power supply. It runs on 9V DC with a center-negative plug, the same standard supply as most compact pedals.
Is the Joyo R-09 Vision true bypass?
Yes. Joyo's product page lists the signal bypass type as true bypass, so with the pedal disengaged the signal passes through without active buffering.
Is the Joyo R-09 Vision stereo?
Yes. Joyo describes the Vision as a dual channel modulation pedal supporting stereo input and output, with two 6.35mm input jacks and two output jacks. It can also run in mono.
How much power does the Joyo R-09 Vision need?
It runs on 9V DC, center negative, with a rated current draw of 170mA. That is higher than many compact analog pedals, so a dedicated output rather than a small daisy chain is the safer choice.
Is the Joyo R-09 Vision analog or digital?
RockBoard's PedalPedia entry lists its circuit type as hybrid, meaning it combines analog and digital elements. The two channels each carry nine digital modulation effects with analog-style control knobs.
