The Looperlative Loop Pad is a looping instrument from Looperlative Audio Products, aimed at solo artists, bands, sound designers and theatres doing live looping, soundscape design and song building in real time1. Where most floor loopers put a handful of footswitches under your feet, the Loop Pad puts a 16-pad control surface in your hands: sixteen multi-color LED buttons are the main controls for selecting tracks, recording, overdubbing and triggering functions1.

Under the surface it runs eight truly independent stereo loop lanes, each with its own volume, pan, feedback and playback state2. Looperlative describes it as the company's latest product, built from the same software base as the current LP1 and LP2 but with a new user interface and a modern hardware set3.

Eight stereo loop lanes on a 16-pad surface

The core of the Loop Pad is its track count. Eight stereo loop lanes run at the same time, and each lane keeps its own volume, pan, feedback and playback state, so lanes can be recorded, layered and muted independently2. Looperlative's manual states plainly that no current floor looper matches this track count1. For comparison, tabletop units like the Boss RC-505 Loop Station and the Electro-Harmonix 95000 also offer multiple stereo tracks, but they sit above the floor rather than on it.

The 16 silicone-rubber pads are arranged as 8 banks of 15 buttons2. Each of the eight color-coded preset banks holds 15 fully assignable buttons, one of which is always the bank selector, giving 120 total assignable functions2. The default preset group that loads on startup is the Blue group, and each of the eight groups is represented by a different color1.

The pads give visual feedback as you work. On a track in Record the track LED flashes red; in Overdub it flashes green; in Playback it holds steady green, and a stopped track with recorded material shows solid red. The LED flashes amber three quarters of the way into the loop and blue to mark the loop's beginning1.

The pads, color banks and gain switches

The LP Pad tab in the editor shows the legend for all 8 color banks and updates automatically as button assignments change, so you can see at a glance what every pad is doing in the current bank2. MIDI messages and Loop Pad pads can both be assigned to looper functions for hands-free control4.

Input and output levels are set by hardware switches rather than menu diving23:

Input gain switchSwitch selectable input gain2
Output gain switchSwitch selectable output gain2
16 LED padsSelect tracks, record, overdub and trigger functions2
Bank selector padOne pad in each bank is always the bank selector2

Power and connections: 9V, 2A center positive

The Loop Pad runs on an approved power supply that must be 100-240 VAC input, 9V 2A output, center positive2. Looperlative notes that actual power usage varies with use3.

The center-positive barrel is the opposite of the center-negative standard used by most pedalboard gear, such as Boss pedals. The Loop Pad cannot share a typical daisy chain or a supply wired for center-negative pedals.

Audio connections are stereo in and stereo out, both on TRS 1/4" connectors2. The unit also includes WiFi SoftAP mode3, and every Loop Pad is automatically licensed, with no requirement to license or register the device2.

Built on the LP1 and LP2 software

The Loop Pad is not a clean-sheet design. Looperlative states it is built from the same software base as the current LP1 and LP2, with a new user interface and modern hardware2. That lineage matters for what the machine can do, because the LP1 and LP2 were already deep looping instruments.

The LP1 is a hardware multitrack looper; Looperlative rebuilt it as the LP1 GenB5. The LP2 GenD is a live-looping foot pedal based on the LP1 GenB hardware and software, packing two stereo tracks into the foot pedal design6. The Loop Pad takes that same software base as the current LP1 and LP2 and moves it to a pad-based surface with a new user interface and a modern hardware set, organized as eight color-coded preset banks instead of the LP2's two stereo tracks.

MIDI and USB control

The Loop Pad offers USB MIDI via four USB-A ports, and it supplies power through those USB-A ports if the connected device is designed to use it2. That means a class-compliant MIDI controller or sound module can be connected and powered from the Loop Pad itself.

MIDI settings live on the Main tab: the MIDI channel runs 1 through 16, MIDI In Clock Mode can be set to Allow or Ignore, and MIDI Out Clock Mode can be On or Off1. Two settings on that tab, LP2 Display Brightness and LP2 Display Mode, pertain to the LP2 only2.
