The Mooer Meta FX is a multi-firmware stereo effects platform: one compact floor unit that becomes a reverb, a delay or a modulation pedal depending on which firmware family you load onto it. Mooer describes it as bringing "reverb, delay, modulation, and more into one compact unit," built on what the company calls its X Algorithm Platform1. Instead of stacking three pedals, you reflash the same box and get a different effect engine each time.

The pedal is built around a 1.28-inch round color touchscreen with an RGB halo ring, used for preset navigation, parameter editing and real-time visual feedback, with A/B dual footswitches handling effect on/off, secondary functions and tap tempo1. It carries 100 user preset locations, and each firmware mode ships with 20 factory presets12.

Three firmware families: Reverb, Delay and Mod

The core idea of the Meta FX is that its effect engine is defined by firmware. Three swappable families are available: REVERB, DELAY and MOD, so one pedal can become a complete effect unit for each category1. Only one family is loaded at a time, which means the pedal cannot run reverb and delay together; gearnews' reviewer called that "a shame," while still liking the pedal's live usability2.

Firmware familyWhat it containsBased on
REVERBMore than ten stereo reverb models, 14 types total, 20+ factory presets1The 14-algorithm R7 X2 Reverb3
DELAYStereo delay algorithmsThe X2 D7 Delay3
MODStereo modulation with processing across pitch, frequency and space, 15 effect types3Evolved in part from the Mooer Mod Factory3

The Reverb firmware's 14 algorithms are Room, Hall, Church, Cave, Plate, Spring, Mod, Studio, Reverse, Warp, Shake, Crush, Shimmer and Dream3. That set spans everyday spaces (room, hall, plate, spring) alongside more experimental textures like Warp, Crush and Shimmer, which is where the platform's "futuristic textures" claim lives1.

The Delay firmware traces back to the X2 D7 Delay, itself an update of the D7, a micro pedal with six delay types: tape, liquid, rainbow, galaxy, modverse and low bit3. The Mod firmware, with 15 effect types covering pitch, frequency and space, is described by Guitar Pedal X as having evolved in part from the Mooer Mod Factory3.

Across all families, Mooer counts 40+ stereo algorithms with a full stereo signal path1.

Power and connections

The Meta FX runs on a 9V DC, 300 mA, center negative supply, and a power adapter ships in the box along with a USB-C cable and a Quick Guide1. The USB-C jack handles firmware updates and computer connection1, and Guitar Pedal X lists it as covering MIDI control, software management and power3.

The 300 mA draw is higher than a typical analog mini pedal, so plan a power supply with headroom rather than a low-current daisy chain output.

Connections and control at a glance:

  • Audio I/O: 2 x 1/4" TS inputs and 2 x 1/4" TS outputs, full stereo signal path1
  • Headphones: 3.5 mm (1/8") TRS output with an independent volume level control13
  • MIDI: supported over both USB-MIDI and TRS-MIDI3
  • Display: 1.28-inch capacitive round touchscreen with a halo LED indicator3
  • Footswitches: two multi-function switches for preset switching and tap tempo3
  • Quick-access controls: press-hold one of three small buttons while adjusting Level to reach Decay, Pre-Delay and Hi-Cut3
  • Software: MOOER Studio for Mac/Windows, covering preset management, firmware updates and full backup/restore1

Where it comes from: the R7 X2 Reverb

The Meta FX's reverb side is based on the 14-algorithm Mooer R7 X2 Reverb3. The R7 X2 itself combines Mooer's digital effects algorithms from the A7 Ambiance and R7 Reverb pedals45. The X2 Series also includes the D7 X2 Delay, the Groove Loop stereo looper and the Preamp Model X25.

The R7 X2 earned a strong review, which gives some sense of the engine the Meta FX inherits. The reviewer's overall verdict called it "a serious stereo reverb pedal," competitively priced and stacked with 14 high-quality sounds and storable presets in a compact form, covering all bases from everyday ambience to super-dreamy soundscaping6. According to Mooer, every setting can go fully wet, useful for ambient swells and soundscaping7.

What reviewers said

Early coverage of the Meta FX itself has been positive about its live usability. Gearnews' reviewer found it easy to use on stage, with plenty of useful performance features, and versatile for experimentation, with the single-firmware-at-a-time limitation the main complaint2.

"I like that they have made it easy to use live, so if you want to gig with it, it has plenty of useful features for performance"

At launch the Meta FX was priced at $143 at Thomann, with £128 in the UK and €149 in the EU2. Guitar Pedal X earlier reported a £149 UK RRP before other prices were listed3.

Questions

Can the Mooer Meta FX run reverb and delay at the same time?

No. The Meta FX loads one firmware family at a time, so the pedal works as a reverb, a delay or a modulation unit, but not two of those together. Gearnews' reviewer called only one firmware being loadable at a time a shame. You switch families by reflashing the pedal over USB-C.

Is the Mooer Meta FX stereo?

Yes. It has two 1/4 inch TS audio inputs and two 1/4 inch TS audio outputs with a full stereo signal path, plus a 3.5 mm headphone output with its own volume control. Mooer lists 40+ stereo algorithms across the firmware families.

Does the Mooer Meta FX have MIDI?

Yes. MIDI is supported over both USB-MIDI and TRS-MIDI, so the pedal can be controlled from a controller, computer or compatible switching system. The USB-C jack also handles software management and power.

Can you power the Mooer Meta FX over USB-C?

Yes. The USB-C interface is listed by Guitar Pedal X as handling MIDI control, software management and power. The pedal also runs from a standard 9V DC center negative supply drawing 300 mA, and a power adapter is included in the box.

How many presets does the Mooer Meta FX hold?

Mooer lists 100 user preset locations for organizing live sets and instant sound recall. Each firmware mode also ships with 20 factory presets, so the reverb, delay and modulation families each arrive with their own starting points.
