The Mooer Prime S1 is a compact multi-effects pedal that puts a whole rig in a stompbox-sized box: amp and cabinet models, effects, presets, a looper, drum grooves and a tuner, all running on a rechargeable battery. Mooer describes it as "a compact, all-in-one rig that's easy to carry, simple to use, and powerful enough for any situation"1. Guitar World billed it at launch as one of the smallest and cheapest multi-FX pedals on the market2.

It was announced on March 27, 2024 and sits in Mooer's Prime series alongside units like the Mooer Prime Minimax M1 and the MOOER Prime P2. Guitar Player's 2026 multi-effects buying guide placed it around the $150 mark31.

What the Prime S1 does

The pedal carries 126 onboard effects and tone presets, which Mooer says gives guitarists "a huge tonal library"1. Its feature list includes 128 guitar effect and tone presets1. Guitar Player's buying guide breaks the modeling down as 52 amp models with 25 cabinets, plus 51 effects3.

For practice and songwriting, the S1 bundles several tools:

  • An 80-second looper with overdub and undo functions1
  • 40 synchronizable drum grooves1
  • 10 metronomes1
  • An internal digital tuner1

Mooer says the looper "makes layering riffs easy," and the drum grooves can be synchronized with it1. The whole package weighs 350g and measures 240mm deep by 70.2mm wide by 31.9mm high, dimensions Guitar World reported at launch41.

Footswitches, display and app control

On the surface, the S1 keeps things simple. Mooer's feature list specifies:

ControlWhat it does
4 multi-function footswitchesSwitch presets and control functions like the looper1
LED digital displayShows the current preset and status1
Master gain dialSets the overall output level1

Mooer says the four responsive footswitches and bright LED display "keep control intuitive"1.

Deep editing is another matter. Guitar World reported at launch that "There are no onboard parameters, so tone tweaking is taken off-pedal: the Prime S1 can be controlled by the Mooer Cloud" app, which dials in gains, modulations, delays, reverbs and more4. Everything is, in Mooer's words, "all editable, shareable, and expandable through the MOOER Cloud platform"1. That means preset editing, sharing tones with other players and downloading new content all happen in the app rather than through menus on the pedal.

If you like to dial in sounds with knobs on the pedal itself, the S1 is not built that way. Beyond the master gain dial, tone editing requires the Mooer Cloud app4.

Power and connections

The S1 runs on a rechargeable lithium battery charged over USB-C, with up to 4.5 hours of playing time per charge1. That battery operation is a big part of the pedal's appeal for players who want a rig that works anywhere without a power brick. On the connections side it has a mono ¼" input and stereo ¼" outputs1, so it can feed two amps or a stereo PA from a single guitar input.

What reviewers said

Guitar Player's 2026 multi-effects buying guide included the Prime S1, describing it as "much more like a traditional multi-effects pedal" than some alternatives, at around $1503. The guide's criticisms were aimed at its amp modeling and build: it lists "Amp sims lack fidelity" and notes it is "not the sturdiest for taking on the road"3. For players weighing it against larger units in Mooer's range, such as the Mooer GE300 or the MOOER GE1000, those points are worth bearing in mind alongside the S1's size, battery and price.

Questions

How long does the Mooer Prime S1 battery last?

Mooer rates the Prime S1 at up to 4.5 hours of playing time from its rechargeable lithium battery, which charges over USB-C. That runtime makes it practical for busking, travel and practice sessions away from a power supply.

How many amp models does the Mooer Prime S1 have?

Guitar Player's buying guide lists 52 amp models and 25 cabinet models, alongside 51 effects. The pedal also carries 126 onboard effects and tone presets according to Mooer's product page, with more available through the Mooer Cloud platform.

Does the Mooer Prime S1 have a looper?

Yes. The Prime S1 includes an 80-second looper with overdub and undo functions, so you can layer riffs on top of a recorded phrase. It sits alongside the drum grooves and metronomes as one of the practice tools built into the pedal.

Can you edit the Mooer Prime S1 without the app?

Not in any depth. Guitar World reports there are no onboard parameters for tone tweaking, so editing gains, modulations, delays and reverbs is done off-pedal through the Mooer Cloud app. The pedal itself has four footswitches, a master gain dial and an LED display.

Does the Mooer Prime S1 have a tuner and drum machine?

Yes to both. The Prime S1 has an internal digital tuner and 40 synchronizable drum grooves, plus 10 metronomes. The drum patterns can be synced with the looper for practice and songwriting.
