The Pedal Pawn CV7005 Germanium Transistor Fuzz Face edition is a Fuzz Face-style germanium fuzz from Pedal Pawn, built around hand-selected authentic 1977 Newmarket NOS CV7005 germanium transistors. It arrived in September 2026 as a hot pink, 120-unit limited run12.
What Pedal Pawn says it does
Pedal Pawn describes the pedal as a thick, powerful germanium fuzz, and its product page makes a short set of claims about the circuit and its parts2:
- Built with authentic 1977 Newmarket NOS CV7005 germanium transistors
- Every pair of CV7005s hand selected
- A thick, powerful germanium fuzz
- Bags of texture
- Humungous FAT tone when the guitar is wide open
The CV7005 transistors
The heart of the pedal is a pair of Newmarket CV7005 germanium transistors from 1977, supplied as new old stock. Pedal Pawn notes that respected builders often compare their character to the legendary NKT275, the transistor associated with classic Fuzz Face designs, and says every pair of CV7005s in the pedal is hand selected2.
Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson, writing about the release, was emphatic about the transistor choice: "It's one of my favourite sounding Fuzz Face transistors"1. On the pedal itself he added, "it looks great - and for sure the CV7005's can really deliver on the output side - you won't get many better sounding fu"1.
Availability and the 120-unit run
The run was strictly limited to 120 pedals2, and demand outpaced it quickly. Guitar Pedal X predicted that "This 120 run will likely all be gone by the time this post goes live first thing Monday morning"1, and Pedal Pawn's own page later reported that a large part of the run sold overnight, with fewer than 10 left at one point before the listing was marked sold out2.
Pedal Pawn offers free worldwide shipping on all pedals, but import duties and taxes on international orders are the customer's responsibility2.
How it compares
The obvious alternative built on the same transistor is the Expresso FX Germanium CV7005 Fuzz, a pair of pedals covered by Guitar Pedal X. The two approaches differ most in their controls31:
| Pedal Pawn CV7005 Fuzz Face edition | Expresso FX Germanium CV7005 Fuzz | |
|---|---|---|
| Circuit style | Fuzz Face style germanium fuzz1 | Germanium CV7005 fuzz pair3 |
| Transistors | Hand-selected 1977 Newmarket NOS CV70052 | CV70053 |
| Controls | Classic two-knob Fuzz Face layout, no external bias1 | Volume, Fuzz and Bias on both pedals3 |
| Run | Limited to 120 pedals2 | Not a limited run as covered21 |
The Pedal Pawn edition does not have an external bias control: Karlsson noted in his coverage that "I don't buy Germanium Fuzzes - which don't have an external Bias control"1. For players who like to trim a germanium fuzz's bias as the temperature changes, that difference matters; for players who set a fuzz and leave it, the Pedal Pawn keeps the classic two-knob Fuzz Face layout.
Pedal Pawn's wider fuzz range includes the Pedal Pawn Octone, the Pedal Pawn Freaky Fuzz, the Pedal Pawn Freaky Fuzz Big Box Artist Series and the Pedal Pawn Fuzz Germanium LTD Edition. For more on the effect type itself, see Fuzz Pedals.
