The Pete Cornish G-2 Blended is a distortion pedal built around the G-2 circuit, with one addition that sets it apart from the standard G-2: a Blend control that mixes the distorted signal with your bypassed, clean signal. That parallel wet and dry path lets you keep low-level detail and attack underneath the drive, dialing in as much or as little of the G-2 sound as you want. It sits in Pete Cornish's line of hand-built gain pedals alongside the P-2 and the Deluxe series12.
Controls
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Volume | Adjusts to match the bypassed signal level2 |
| Blend | Mixes the G-2 (WET) and bypassed (DRY) signals; at 12 o'clock it mixes equal amounts of each, with varying amounts dialable either side2 |
Pete Cornish's own product page describes the Blend control this way: "Blend control at 12 o'clock will now mix equal amounts of G-2 and Bypassed signal (labelled WET and DRY)". Turned fully clockwise you get the full G-2 signal; at 12 o'clock the wet and dry signals are mixed evenly32. The Volume control is then set to match the level of the bypassed signal2.
The G-2 circuit
The Blended version carries over the G-2's core design. The pedal uses germanium clipping diodes, which the maker pairs with what it describes as "warm Germanium qualities and higher gain". On the gain range, Pete Cornish's page places it relative to the company's other drives: it "starts at around the rhythmic crunch stage of the SS-3" and continues upward into lead territory4.
Two design points from the maker's G-2 page carry over to the platform:
- A high impedance, RFI-rejecting input and bypass buffer3
- Battery power with easy replacement via a "drawer"; the battery is switched on when you insert the IN/PWR jack, and alkaline is the preferred type3
Independent analysis of the circuit adds a point of interest for players who know the Cornish range: Kit Rae's technical write-up notes that the G-2 "actually uses the same PCB as the P-2, but with 16 components changed to reduce the gain and change the EQ"5. In other words, the G-2 is a lower-gain, differently voiced relation of the P-2, which is useful context if you are choosing between the two.
Build and warranty
Each pedal is built by Pete Cornish at Unit 5, Silveroaks Farm, Hawkhurst Lane, Waldron, Heathfield, East Sussex, UK1. The maker covers the pedal with a twelve-month warranty from the date of purchase: should a fault occur in that period, it is returned post paid to the maker's address for repair of any original manufacturing fault, with normal wear, misuse, unauthorized modifications and accidental damage excepted1.
