The Pigtronix Infinity 2 Double Looper is a looping pedal with two independent loops, and two footswitches, one for each loop12. Made by Pigtronix, it gives each loop its own footswitch so a player can start, stop and layer parts independently13. A button above the left footswitch lets that footswitch apply Stop, Stutter and Octave Shift effects to loops, and the same effects can also be triggered by an external footswitch1. Players can assign undo/redo functionality to the left footswitch, so overdubs can be scrubbed or restored on the fly1.

The idea behind the pedal is the verse/chorus workflow: as Sweetwater's Don Carr put it in his demo, "The Infinity 2 lets you harness two independent stereo loops for a verse/chorus workflow"2. You record one part on one loop, another part on the second, and move between them without stopping. Pigtronix says the switching is seamless "even during initial recording or while overdubbing"4.

Two independent stereo loops

The Infinity 2's core feature is its pair of independent loops. Each one records up to five minutes56, and the two footswitches on the front of the pedal, one per loop, handle recording, playback and overdubbing for their own loop1. Because the loops are independent, you can build a backing part on one while the other keeps playing, which is what separates this from single-loop pedals like the TC Electronic Ditto Looper or two-track designs such as the Boss RC-30 Phrase Looper.

The pedal is fully stereo. The inputs accept mono and stereo instruments as well as line-level signals, and there are two separate outputs that also accept mono, stereo and line level12. The dual outputs are routable two ways57:

  • Stereo, blended: pass-through and loop audio are mixed together across both outputs.
  • Discrete wet/dry: loop audio is summed to one output while your pass-through signal goes to the other, handy for sending loops to a separate amp or mixer channel.

The controls

The front panel is deliberately simple: two footswitches, a Volume knob and a Decay knob17. The Volume knob controls the level of the recorded loop material, and it governs both loops at once28.

ControlWhat it does
Volume knobSets the level of both loops8
Decay knobControls how loop audio fades during overdub. Fully clockwise, layers pile up at full volume and the loop cycles continuously; fully counter-clockwise, each overdub lasts one loop cycle; in between, overdubs fade progressively for constantly evolving textures27
Left footswitchRecords, plays and overdubs its loop; can also be assigned undo/redo to scrub or restore overdubs on the fly1
Right footswitchRecords, plays and overdubs the second loop1
Button above left footswitchSets the footswitch to apply Stop, Stutter and Octave Shift effects to loops1

The Decay knob is the pedal's most distinctive control. Delicious Audio described how "overdubbing on the Infinity 2 creates constantly evolving loop textures that can be instantly snapped back to a previous state using the Undo function"7. Set it in between its extremes and each pass fades a little, so repeated overdubs shift and decay like a tape loop rather than stacking forever at full volume.

The Stop behavior has three variants, per Pigtronix's own page: press once to stop at the loop boundary, press twice to stop immediately, press and hold to fade out4. The Stutter, Octave Shift and Stop effects can also be triggered by an external footswitch instead of the onboard button1.

USB recording and where it came from

The Infinity 2 offers 24-bit/44kHz USB recording5, so loop audio can go straight into a computer at CD resolution. Combined with the line-level inputs, this makes the pedal usable as a compact stereo recording front end, not just a live tool.

The Infinity 2 Double Looper's looping is built around its two independent loops, each with its own footswitch1. A button above the left footswitch lets the player use that footswitch to apply Stop, Stutter and Octave Shift effects to the loops, and those effects can alternatively be triggered by an external footswitch1. Undo/redo functionality can be assigned to the left footswitch as well, so previous overdubs can be scrubbed or restored while playing1.

The Infinity 2 is an earlier Pigtronix looper, and its two-footswitch, two-loop design sets it apart from single-loop pedals. Players shopping for one today may find it on the used or clearance market rather than as current stock.

What reviewers said

Reviews of the Infinity 2 were positive about its balance of depth and ease of use. In Sweetwater's demo video, Don Carr called it "deceptively deep but still easy to use"2. GuitarPlayer's reviewer concluded that "Songwriters will love it"8. Guitar World noted that the pedal "boasts the same high-fidelity audio and ultra-low-latency looping engine as Pigtronix's original Infinity" looper9, which is the same claim Pigtronix makes for the pedal itself4.

In the Sweetwater demo, Carr walks through the two-loop workflow, the stereo I/O, and the Decay knob's range from continuous looping to single-cycle overdubs, showing how the in-between settings produce evolving layers2.

Questions

How long can each loop on the Pigtronix Infinity 2 be?

Each of the two independent loops holds up to five minutes of audio56.

Can you switch between loops while overdubbing on the Infinity 2?

Yes. Pigtronix says the Infinity 2 enables musicians to switch between loops seamlessly, even during initial recording or while overdubbing4.

Does the Pigtronix Infinity 2 have undo and redo?

Yes. Undo/redo functionality can be assigned to the left footswitch, letting you scrub previous overdubs or restore them on the fly1.

Does the Infinity 2 work in stereo?

Yes. It has inputs for mono or stereo instruments and line-level signals, with stereo outputs that can be configured for a blended signal or discrete wet/dry operation1.

How much does the Pigtronix Infinity 2 cost?

It launched at $199 in the US in 202019.

Can the Infinity 2 record over USB?

Yes, it offers 24-bit/44kHz USB recording5.
