The Reeves Electro ZO Fuzz is a hand-built silicon fuzz pedal described by Delicious Audio as "a hand-built homage to the Zonk Machine MKII", the vintage British fuzz circuit. It is aimed at players after that classic style of fuzz: the write-up describes it as "Crafted for vintage British fuzz purists"1. It sits in the wider family of fuzz pedals, a circuit type Reeves Electro has returned to repeatedly.
What it does
Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio describes the ZO Fuzz as "delivering iconic spitty attack, focused upper mids, and chewy compression", balancing "raw aggression with exceptional touch sensitivity and guitar-volume cleanup"1. In practical terms, that is the character players associate with vintage British silicon fuzz: an aggressive, spluttering edge on full-tilt notes, a midrange push that keeps the sound forward in a band mix, and a compressed, thick sustain under the attack. The guitar-volume cleanup matters too: rolling the volume knob back is the traditional way to tame a fuzz of this type into a quieter, more open overdrive-like voice.
The build is central to the design. The pedal uses "carefully matched NOS silicon transistors, period-correct resistors, and premium capacitors", and the wiring is point-to-point with no printed circuit board. De Gregorio writes: "With point-to-point wiring and no PCB, it's built for players who cherish nuance, responsiveness, and vintage mojo."1
Where it sits in the Reeves Electro range
The ZO Fuzz was announced on 19 August 2025 as a new pedal1. It belongs to a maker that builds fuzzes in small runs, often around a single classic circuit:
- The Darlington Flyer, the maker's first PCB-based pedal, released in November 2023
- Twin Sound, an Octavia-style octave fuzz in a run of 10
- Facet IZ, a silicon Fuzz Face take with an added tone control
- IZZrite, a Fuzzrite variant with an added Bias control
- Z1, a three-transistor recreation of the JHS MK1 Zonk Machine, announced October 2026
The Z1 is the closest relative in the range: where the ZO Fuzz honors the Zonk Machine MKII, the Z1 recreates the MK1 version of the same circuit family1.
