The T-Rex Sweeper 2 is a chorus pedal for bass and guitar from Danish maker T-Rex. T-Rex pitches it as a simple, intuitive pedal that "does just one job and does it extraordinarily well: producing an exquisite chorus effect for the bass and guitar, giving bassists and guitarist of all styles a new tool for delivering classic bottom end"1. It is the successor to the original Sweeper, introduced to North America at the 2013 Winter NAMM Show12.
Although T-Rex describes the sound as an "analog sounding chorus"1, the pedal is built around a digital core. Premier Guitar's reviewer noted that T-Rex "adjusted the digital core's algorithm to produce warmer, more vintage-sounding modulation"3, which is the main change from the earlier version.
Controls and the input level knob
The pedal's control set is on/off, depth, rate, volume, and input gain1. The depth, rate, and volume knobs appear in the same configuration as on the original Sweeper3.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| On/off | Switches the effect in and out |
| Depth | Sets how deep the chorus modulation goes |
| Rate | Sets the speed of the chorus modulation |
| Volume | Sets the output level |
| Input gain | Sets the input level feeding the pedal1 |
The input control is side-mounted rather than on the top face. Premier Guitar's reviewer explained how to use it: "I set my level using the side-mounted input control. This includes a helpful LED clipping indicator for dialing in your optimal level"3. The knob can also be pressed into the enclosure to prevent accidental changes3. The maximum input signal, in volts peak-to-peak, is adjustable1.
Stereo operation
While the pedal works fine in mono, it has L and R outputs for stereo. T-Rex says these "deliver a truly mind-blowing stereo chorus in a studio or in a stereo live setting"1. Premier Guitar's review confirmed the dual outputs for stereo operation, noting the jacks are mounted at the top of the purple enclosure3.
What changed from the original Sweeper
The Sweeper 2 is a new incarnation of T-Rex's popular Sweeper31. Beyond the internal change, "the Sweeper 2 has the same features as the previous version"3. The upgrade is in the digital core: T-Rex says the Sweeper 2 "gets an upgrade to its digital core, meaning you get even more gorgeous chorus effect no matter what depth or rate the pedal is set at"1. Premier Guitar's reviewer described the result as warmer, more vintage-sounding modulation3.
Power, battery, and specifications
The pedal runs on a 9V DC power supply (T-Rex FuelTank), with a minimum supply voltage of 8,5V DC, a maximum of 12,5V DC, and a current draw of 90 mA at 9V DC1. It also takes a 9V 6F22 battery, but battery life is only about 30 minutes1.
With a 30-minute battery life, the Sweeper 2 is effectively a power-supply pedal. Plan on a 9V DC supply, and note the 90 mA draw when sizing a pedalboard power brick1.
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Input impedance @ 1KHz | Higher than 1M Ohm1 |
| Output impedance @ 1KHz | Lower than 1K Ohm1 |

Price and what reviewers said
At launch in 2013 the Sweeper 2 carried a retail price of $269 and a street price of $1992, a street figure echoed by Delicious Audio's news coverage at the time4 and by Premier Guitar's 2021 review3.
On build quality, Premier Guitar's review was brief and positive: "Solid construction. Thoughtful layout." The reviewer described a well-built pedal with rugged hardware and an expertly installed circuit board3.

Questions
Is the T-Rex Sweeper 2 Bass Chorus analog or digital?
It is digital. T-Rex describes the pedal as an analog-sounding chorus, but it is built around a digital core, and the Sweeper 2's main upgrade over the original Sweeper is an adjusted algorithm in that core that produces warmer, more vintage-sounding modulation.
Does the T-Rex Sweeper 2 Bass Chorus work in stereo?
Yes. The pedal has L and R outputs for stereo operation, which T-Rex describes as delivering a wide stereo chorus in a studio or stereo live setting. It can also be used in mono with a single output.
What does the input level knob do on the Sweeper 2?
The side-mounted input control sets the input level feeding the pedal, with an LED clipping indicator to help you dial in an optimal level. The maximum input signal is adjustable in volts peak-to-peak. The knob can be pressed into the enclosure to prevent accidental changes.
What changed between the original Sweeper and the Sweeper 2?
The Sweeper 2 keeps the same features as the previous version, including the depth, rate, and volume knobs in their original configuration. The main upgrade is internal: an adjusted algorithm in the digital core that produces warmer, more vintage-sounding modulation at any depth or rate setting.
How much does the T-Rex Sweeper 2 Bass Chorus cost?
At its 2013 launch it carried a retail price of $269 and a street price of $199. Premier Guitar's 2021 review also listed the street price as $199.
Does the T-Rex Sweeper 2 run on a battery?
Yes, it takes a 9V 6F22 battery, but battery life is only about 30 minutes, so a power supply is the practical option. It runs on 9V DC, with an accepted supply range of 8.5V to 12.5V DC, and draws 90 mA at 9V DC.
