The TC Electronic Hall Of Fame 2 X4 is a stereo multi-mode reverb pedal from TC Electronic, announced in August 2019 as the expanded version of the Hall of Fame 2. It packs ten reverb algorithms, four pressure-sensitive MASH footswitches, six TonePrint slots, MIDI and an expression input into one large red enclosure. TC describes it as covering ground "from tiny tiled bathroom stall reflections and earthy, cavernous reverberations to gargantuan, atmospheric ambience"12.
It was designed and engineered in Denmark and launched at US$249.99 MAP in the United States, priced $249 by MusicRadar's report, with UK and EU pricing of approximately £205 and €223 at launch34.
Ten reverb modes, including a Sub 'N' Up shimmer
The Hall Of Fame 2 X4 carries ten reverb algorithms. Pedal of the Day lists them as Shimmer, Spring, Room, Hall, Church, Plate, Gate, Modulation, Lo-Fidelity and Ambient, calling them "quality, studio-grade reverb modes"7. Guitar.com's Daniel Ong described the lineup as "usual suspects such as spring, church, room, plate and lo-fi, as well as" the new Shimmer2.
The standout is the Shimmer mode, which is built on the polyphonic octave algorithm from TC Electronic's Sub 'N' Up octaver. Pedal of the Day noted it "uses TC's own SUB 'N' UP OCTAVER in the algorithm to create astonishingly other-worldly sounds with ease"7, and Guitar.com reported that it "promises to produce a range of" otherworldly effects2.
| Mode | What it is |
|---|---|
| Shimmer | Octave-shifted ambient reverb using the Sub 'N' Up polyphonic octave algorithm72 |
| Spring | Spring reverb emulation2 |
| Room | Small-space ambience7 |
| Hall | TC's Hall algorithm17 |
| Church | Large, cavernous reverb72 |
| Plate | Studio plate reverb72 |
| Gate | Gated reverb7 |
| Modulation | Modulated reverb7 |
| Lo-Fidelity | Lo-fi character reverb72 |
| Ambient | Long atmospheric wash7 |
The controls and MASH footswitches
Central to the pedal are its four MASH footswitches. These are preset buttons that double as pressure-sensitive expression switches: they toggle between reverb settings, and how hard you press controls effect parameters. Guitar.com's Daniel Ong explained that "their pressure-sensitive feature means that each switch" can control up to three parameters, giving the example of modifying "your selected reverb's decay, pre-delay or level by varying the pressure you put on the footswitch"2. Gearnews described them similarly as pressure-sensitive switches5.
Alongside the footswitches there is a dedicated pre-delay knob. Pedal of the Day found it "lets you fine tune the reverb response time for more control"7, and Gearnews noted it "allows you to fine tune your reverb response times"5.
Presets and TonePrint slots
The pedal stores sounds in six TonePrint slots, which hold both your own effects and artist-created TonePrints, plus two preset banks32. TonePrint is TC Electronic's system of downloadable artist and custom effects settings. Gearnews counted the preset capacity and concluded "is a lot of reverb choices in one pedal"5. The pedal also supports spillover between presets, so reverb tails carry over when you switch sounds6.
Connections: stereo, MIDI and expression
The Hall Of Fame 2 X4 is built for larger and more complex rigs:
- Outputs: Both mono and stereo outputs35
- MIDI: Comprehensive MIDI support for controlling the pedal and switching presets remotely37
- Expression: An expression input for controlling parameters remotely7
- FX loop friendly: Pedal of the Day found it "working flawlessly with both guitar and FX Loop level signals," fitting "perfectly into any rig"7
- Bypass: A switch selects true bypass or buffered bypass, with kill-dry on/off and optimized headroom15
The selectable buffer and kill-dry options matter for stereo and parallel rigs: kill-dry removes the dry signal from the outputs so the pedal can sit in a parallel effects loop, while the buffer option keeps your signal strong over long cable runs615.
How it differs from the Hall of Fame 2
The X4 is the larger sibling of the compact Hall of Fame 2. Guitar.com reported that TC "has now given its Hall Of Fame 2 pedal the same overhaul" it applied to its delay line, meaning the four MASH footswitches, the new Shimmer option and the expanded preset storage2. Pedal of the Day called it "the Flashback's sibling of sorts," referencing TC's X4-format delay pedal7. In short: the Hall of Fame 2 is the small, single-footswitch version; the X4 adds the footswitch bank, shimmer, pre-delay knob, MIDI and stereo connections.
What reviewers said
Premier Guitar's reviewer was emphatic about the pedal's value:
"But if any other pedals provide superior reverb in this price range, I'm unaware of them8."
Premier Guitar reviewer8
Pedal of the Day called it "a big red beast" and praised the range of its ten studio-grade modes7. Gearnews framed it as "a reverb pedal on steroids," highlighting the eight easily accessible presets and the pressure-sensitive switching5.

Questions
Is the Hall of Fame 2 X4 true bypass?
It can be. The pedal has a switch that lets you run it in either true bypass or buffered bypass mode, and it also offers a kill-dry on/off option. That makes it flexible for different pedalboard setups, whether you want a fully transparent signal path or a buffer in the chain.
Does the Hall of Fame 2 X4 work in an effects loop?
Yes. Pedal of the Day's review found it works flawlessly with both guitar-level and FX loop level signals, so it fits either in front of your amp or in its effects loop. It also has mono and stereo outputs, so it adapts to stereo and mono rigs alike.
How is the Hall of Fame 2 X4 different from the Hall of Fame 2?
The X4 is the expanded version. It adds four preset buttons that double as pressure-sensitive MASH expression switches, a new Shimmer reverb mode, six TonePrint slots, two preset banks, a dedicated pre-delay knob, and MIDI support, all in a larger enclosure with more footswitches.
Does the Hall of Fame 2 X4 have MIDI?
Yes. The pedal has comprehensive MIDI support, with MIDI input for switching presets and controlling parameters remotely. There is also an expression pedal input for hands-free parameter control, which is useful on larger boards and in studio setups.
What warranty does the Hall of Fame 2 X4 have?
It ships with a three-year warranty from TC Electronic. The pedal was designed and engineered in Denmark, and it launched at $249.99 MAP in the United States in August 2019.
