EarthQuaker Devices launches Silos three-mode delay pedal at $149

EarthQuaker Devices released the Silos, a compact three-mode delay pedal, on August 1, 2024, Guitar World and MusicRadar reported12. The pedal combines digital, analog and tape delay types in one unit, with six onboard presets and a dedicated tap tempo footswitch13.
The three modes are selected with a three-position switch. Mode D is a digital delay with nearly infinite repeats that hold their fidelity while gradually rolling off the top end with each regeneration; Mode A is an analog delay, more mid-focused in the initial attack and gradually darker with each repeat; Mode T resembles an old tape delay, dark and moody with a hint of distortion34. Guitar World reported the analog mode was inspired by the KMD analog delay and the tape mode by a vintage Echoplex, both from founder Jamie Stillman's collection1. Each mode offers up to one second of delay time13.
Controls are Mix, Time and Repeats knobs, a Mode switch, a Save/Recall button and two footswitches34. The Save/Recall switch indicates two operating modes: green for Live Mode, where the pedal follows the control positions, and red for Preset Mode, which recalls stored settings34. The pedal has buffered bypass with tails, Flexi-Switch technology for latching and momentary operation, and user-assignable expression control over any parameter34. Guitar Pedal X lists an all-analog dry signal path and a digital effect signal path, 75 mA current draw, 500 kΩ input impedance and 100 Ω output impedance, and says it is made in Akron, Ohio4. Bass Magazine gives out-of-box dimensions of 2.625" x 5" x 2.3125" and a lifetime warranty3.
The US retail price is $149134. MusicRadar's report gave $1792; Guitar World, Bass Magazine, Guitar Pedal X and Gearnews all list $1491345.
"It started with a quest from EQD founder and gear hoarder Jamie Stillman to combine his favorite delays into one box"
EQD described the pedal as "an ambitious foray into uncharted territory in finding a way to assemble them all together as one uncomplicated unit"1. Guitar.com's review, published August 5, rated the Silos 8 out of 10, praising its three sounds and compact design with tap tempo and presets, and noting the absence of modulation, particularly on the tape mode6.
