JHS Pedals announced a limited-run, "Big Box" exclusive version of the Dual Op-Amp circuit as a direct offering from its site earlier in the week of December 15, 20251. The circuit is based on a long-lost design created by inventor Bob Myer in the late 1970s1.
According to Guitar World, the JHS version is a big-box wedge enclosure limited to 5,700 units, priced at $2492. The schematic was found by Josh Scott of JHS Pedals, EHX collector Daniel Danger and writer and historian Dan Epstein while they were researching a book about Electro-Harmonix, according to the same review2. Guitar World reports that Scott said the design differs from the late 1970s Op-Amp Big Muff designed by Michael Abrams, citing a different clipping arrangement and an extra gain stage2.
"We breadboarded the circuit exactly as Bob drew it, and immediately knew we had something worth making."
The same week, Electro-Harmonix announced a standard run of the pedal, the Big Muff Pi 2 Dual Op-Amp, described as a newly released fuzz pedal housed in a nano-sized die-cast chassis with custom artwork by Daniel Danger1. It carries the familiar Volume, Tone and Sustain control set, silent true bypass footswitching with Latching/Momentary Action, and a price of $1171. Guitar World lists the EHX launch price at $122, with Volume, Tone and Sustain controls, true bypass, 9V DC or battery power at 15 mA current draw, dimensions of 146.05 x 87.63 x 69.85mm and a weight of 242g2. The two prices given for the EHX pedal differ between the two reports.
The Big Muff Pi 2 shares DNA with the classic Big Muff but has its own voicing, with the Sustain knob ranging from medium grit to "full fuzz fury" and the Tone control moving from "brash rasp to deep thunder," according to Gearnews1.
