PastFX released the doppelflänger, a compact pedal based on the 1970s MXR Flanger/Doubler rack unit, Guitar Pedal X reported on September 25, 2026. The pedal is listed at $399 AUD, which the report gives as $280 USD1.
The doppelflänger uses a Panasonic MN3007 bucket-brigade device for the flanger and an Xvive MN3005 for the doubler, standing in for the Reticon chips in the original rack unit1. It requires a minimum of 18V and covers the 24V swing of the original, and it has a Vactrol onboard, visible when the back plate is removed1. PastFX's Verlie calibrated the pedal's output against her own vintage rack unit, according to the report, which says the original's quirks are kept intact1.
Controls are Width (depth/intensity), a Mode switch for Flanger or Doubler, Speed, Manual (delay time), Dry to Wet Mix, Regen (feedback), a Hi/Lo switch for instrument or line input, and a Phase Invert switch1. The Hi/Lo switch is a push button on the front panel, and a single port changes between CV in and CV out via an internal slider switch1.
"Past FX is using equivalent NOS Panasonic MN3007 (monolithic 1024 Stages) for the Flanger, and an Xvive MN3005 (4096 Stages) for the Doubler"
The report compares the doppelflänger with MXR's own MXR Flanger/Doubler pedal, which launched on August 11, 2026 at $333 and runs on 9V, converting it internally to plus and minus 12V12. Guitar World reported that the MXR unit is all-analog with the original control set, a doubler button, a mix knob and an Invert button that reverses the wet signal polarity2. The Guitar Pedal X report says the MXR omits the Vactrol, replaced with a VCA filter, and uses a pair of 3204 chips for the flanger and a pair of 3205 chips for the doubler1.
Guitar Pedal X's reviewer wrote that the flanger voicing "sounds fantastic" but preferred PastFX's 80/A and Reticon flangers, and said the doubler mode works well with higher gain pedals1.
