The Surfy Industries SURFYBEAR CLASSIC REVERB UNIT was reported by Delicious Audio on January 26, 2024 as new at NAMM1. The outlet describes it as "a pedal that recreates the sound of the vintage Fender 6G15 Reverb Unit"1. Surfy Industries describes the SurfyBear line as featuring "the same specifications of the Fender® 6G15® reverb unit, replacing the tubes with JFET transistor technology"2. The original Fender 6G15 standalone reverb was released in 1962, according to the maker2.
Delicious Audio reports that the pedal is large because it uses a full-size spring reverb tank, and that it uses JFET transistors in place of the tubes used in the original1. Surfy Industries lists an "Exclusive SurfyPan EXTRA type-4 spring reverb pan by Accutronics® and Surfy Industries" and states: "This is NOT a digital effect and it incorporates a real spring reverb pan"2. The maker also states the unit has "NO TRUE BYPASS," adding that "Changing the tone a little bit is part of the game here and we wanted to keep it so"2.
Delicious Audio lists three knobs: Dwell, which "adjusts the length of the reverb"; Mixer, which "balances the dry and wet signals"; and Tone, which "changes the brightness or darkness of the sound"1. It also lists an on/off switch and a jack for an external on/off footswitch1. Surfy Industries lists a "Dual mixer control through the SurfyDrip Switch connection," an external footswitch jack with the footswitch not included, Switchcraft components, a steel bottom cover, and a 12V power supply included that works worldwide with any polarity2. The maker gives dimensions of 450 x 190 x 80 mm (17.5 x 7.5 x 3 inches)2.
The enclosure is wood covered with Fender-style tolex, available in blonde, brown or black, per both Delicious Audio and the maker21. Surfy Industries calls the Classic "our top-of-the-line product"2. Delicious Audio reports that Surfy Industries "claims to preserve the same circuit and sound quality as the original device, but with a smaller size and lower cost"1. No price or ship date is given in either account.
"This is our top-of-the-line product and the perfect match to your vintage amplifier!"
The SURFYBEAR CLASSIC sits in the maker's reverb pedals line alongside the SurfyBear Metal, Compact Deluxe, Studio and Beach Boys models2.
