The AMT PANGAEA CP-100 is an IR (impulse response) cabinet simulator from AMT Electronics, a Russian maker with a long history in amp simulation gear. It replaces a guitar speaker cabinet and microphone with digital impulse responses, so you can run a preamp, an amp head or even a power amp straight into it and come out with a recorded-style cab tone at headphone, line or balanced levels1. Around the IR engine AMT has built a full tone-shaping chain: a power amp simulation with nine types, an analog preamp with Clean, Low gain and High gain modes, a compressor, Hi/Low pass filters with a Presence control, and a global noise gate12.

The unit is compact and lightweight at 180g, and runs on 12V DC at 100mA3. It sits in the same category as units like the MOOER Radar, NUX Solid Studio and Two Notes Torpedo C.A.B., all of which are covered elsewhere on this site in the speaker simulation pedals section.

What it does to your sound

The CP-100's core job is cab simulation: each preset holds one IR applied to both the left and right channels521. On top of that sits the rest of the chain, which AMT's own product video, presented by Sergei Tabachnikov, lists as:

  • Power Amp simulation (9 types)1
  • Analog Preamp (Clean / Low gain / High gain)1
  • Compressor2
  • Hi/Low pass filters plus Presence2
  • Noise Gate (global setting)4
  • IR cabsim (1 IR for both L/R channels per preset)1

The power amp simulation is the piece that separates this from a bare IR loader. Where a simple cab sim only convolves a static speaker snapshot, the CP-100 models the behavior of a power section driving the virtual cabinet, with nine selectable types1. The analog preamp in front of it offers three gain ranges, so the unit can serve as a complete front end, not just the last box in the chain1.

Inputs, attenuator and outputs

The input side is where the CP-100 shows its flexibility. A six-position attenuator on the input lets it accept anything from a line-level preamp output to a cranked tube power amp3:

Attenuator positionIntended source
0dBPreamp (-10dBV to 0dBu)
-24dBPower amp 3W, 8 Ohm / 2W, 16 Ohm
-28dBPower amp 8W, 8 Ohm / 5.5W, 16 Ohm
-32dBPower amp 20W, 8 Ohm / 14W, 16 Ohm
-36dBPower amp 50W, 8 Ohm / 35W, 16 Ohm
-40dBPower amp 130W, 8 Ohm / 95W, 16 Ohm

On the output side there are three working modes3:

Working modeOutput typeLevel
1Headphones, stereo-2dBu (0.615Vrms)
2Line output, stereo-10dBV (0.314Vrms)
3Balanced output, mono

There is also an AUX IN for an external sound source such as an MP3 player, so you can play along with backing tracks through the same headphone output3.

The CP-100 runs on 12V DC at 100mA3, not the supply voltage many compact pedals use, so it needs its own 12V supply rather than sharing a standard pedal daisy chain.

IR files and conversion

The CP-100 loads impulse responses as WAV files, 24-bit at 48 kHz, mono, with a truncation length of 20.5 msec3. To use third-party IR collections, AMT provides the IR Converter SPIRIT application for Windows and macOS, which converts IR files of other formats into the Pangaea's WAV format3. The 20.5 msec truncation is on the short side compared with some IR loaders, which matters most for IRs with long tails.

Firmware and updates

AMT keeps the CP-100's software current through two parallel firmware types, updated via a Windows application (WIN APP)6. The two branches are:

  • GREEN FIRMWARE (Type #1): v.PA.6.09.08, released 06/01/2025. This version restores the IR WAV name display when pressing SET/Esc and fixes other minor bugs7.
  • BLUE FIRMWARE (Type #2): v.RV.2.08.12, released 06/01/2025, with the same IR name display fix and minor bug fixes8.

AMT's media center reported in October 2026 that the company had upgraded the Pangaea CP-100 with an expanded feature set9, so the unit remains an actively supported product rather than a discontinued one.

Questions

What IR file format does the Pangaea CP-100 use?

The CP-100 loads IR files in WAV format, 24-bit at 48 kHz, mono, with a truncation length of 20.5 msec. AMT's free IR Converter SPIRIT application for Windows and macOS converts any impulse response files you already have into that format so the unit can load them.

Can the Pangaea CP-100 take the output of a power amp?

Yes. Its input attenuator has positions from 0dB down to -40dB, and the -40dB position is rated for power amps up to 130W into 8 Ohms or 95W into 16 Ohms. The 0dB position is intended for preamp-level signals in the -10dBV to 0dBu range.

What is the latency of the AMT Pangaea CP-100?

AMT specifies the CP-100's latency at 1.2 msec, which is low enough that most players will not perceive a delay between picking a note and hearing the processed output.

Is the Pangaea CP-100 stereo?

Its headphone and line output working modes are stereo, but each preset uses one IR for both the left and right channels, so you do not get a different cabinet on each side of a single preset.

How do I update the Pangaea CP-100 firmware?

Firmware is updated through AMT's Windows application (WIN APP). AMT has issued two firmware types for the unit: GREEN FIRMWARE (Type #1), most recently v.PA.6.09.08, and BLUE FIRMWARE (Type #2), most recently v.RV.2.08.12.

What is the difference between the Pangaea CP-100 and CP-100FX?

The CP-100FX, released in 2016, keeps the CP-100's cabinet simulation and attenuator but adds built-in effects, including a tap tempo delay, plus other features. The CP-100 focuses on cab simulation, power amp simulation, preamp, filters and noise gate.
